Does anyone know how busy the Gwydir River Camps will get at Xmas time, would we have any chance of a spot a couple of days before Xmas?
Any insider knowledge on a good spot, i believe there are a number along the river? We checked out the ones near town just before Easter and they looked nice, and were quiet on Easter Thursday.
Also, what about Copeton Dam? Do the crowds rock in on Xmas eve like they do at Easter or will it be busy there already?
Failing these spots, are there any others in that general area that we might be able to visit on our journey south?
All suggestions appreciated!!

If you are going to the copeton dam, the camp on the northern foreshore is great $10 per nite powered, but I would give them a call first to see if u can be catered for at this time of year.
Bingara camps are great but can be a bit hit n miss for a spot (ESP in the busy silly season) & there's no way to gauge availability there until you turn up.

Thanks Jack Biggles - but i believe the Northern Foreshore doesn't allow dogs, so it's a no go for us.
We might try Bingara and keep our fingers crossed for a decent spot.
BTW do you know if there is a time limit at the camps furthur up the river, i know that the ones in town have a 7 day limit?
Cheers

There were dogs at the northern foreshore bout feb/march this year when I was passing thru. I think they allow responsible owners of small dog to camp but must be on lead. I see camps book has no symbol for this. Perhaps worth a quick call to the caretaker.
As for 7 days @ camps along the river, I recall seeing a sign at one of the larger spots but no others. There were other camps with people that had been there for months. I only stayed 3/4 days @ 2 different camp before heading over to the Northern fshore & inverell for supplies. Worse coffee I ever bought!

Hi Cris and Peter,
You could try Rose's Farm about 12k out of Bingara on the river. It is a private camp about $10 per night. Dogs allowed.
