Hi Brian & Cheryl, we often go up to Greens lake with our daughter and son in law just to chill out. Like I said our last visit was been awoken at 2 in the morning with fire works etc. I have suggested in the past about taking rego numbers and the odd photo of ferals and passing this onto Police etc if enough of them get questioned about their activities maybe the word might spread that they are being watch. I wonder if a big sign to the entrance reminding them that their regos and behavior are being noticed because of the damage etc, like dobbing in a hoon driver, it might just put a stop to some of the crap. Thanks for the good work.
Regards
Sue & Steve

I have just been speaking with Goulburn Valley water about the closing of Greens Lake due to the damage that is being done by a minority. The Rochester office have said they have had enough and are seriously considering closing it to the general public because of this minority element. I spoke to one of the staff in their office and suggested that we, the Grey Nomads, would be happy to see the road locked and pay a $50 deposit for a key to gain access. With our policy of leaving nothing behind but your footprints they are happy to take that concept on board. The staff member said that as yet they have not made any decisions as yet but were thankful of this input recognizing that we as users of the site generally look after the site. If you feel that you have something to add to this matter the staff member said they would be happy to hear what you have to say. As I said, they are aware of where the problem comes from so be positive in your comments. The phone number for the Rochester office is 03 - 5484 7400. Let's take this opportunity to show our support where its needed.
Brian and Cheryl.

G'day Brian and Cheryl, I will track down an address and email for them as something in writing could help things in our favour too. Thanks for the update.

In my previous life I was in Local Government at Management Level and found that a letter was always the best way to contact a Government Office, it has to be answered in a set time, emails are good as well. I will be sending a letter of to the CEO.

Yes thanks for tracking down the email address Doug. I, too, will drop them a line. I love Greens Lake and would hate to see it closed because of a few bogans.

Even though I haven't been there yet, count me in. I'm expecting to go there mid April after reading so many good reports. Whatever you want to put to the Authorities, as I said, count me in.

I assume Greens is a council reserve. I frequently visit three council reserves in the scenic rim shire ,(south east Qld). These are Darlington Park, James Sharp & Flanagans. These have on site managers who do an excellent job looking after the reserves. The managers have a leese over the reserves. They charge $6 - $8 per night. I think it's well worth the money to have security, a clean & maintained camping area. Darlington Park is a credit to the managers, they are continually making improvements & have set up a kiosk with most things you could need.
Maybe the council that is responsible for Greens could look at a similar management system, The more people that stop in a shire, more money for the locals.
Cheers Pete

Not sure if the $50 deposit would work as it would require you to first visit the office during office hours and then return again. This would mean you have two trips added to your already travel Kms and must be done in office hours You would get one person opening the gate and then letting their mates in as reported happens with CP showers etc. Many would know of the lock and arrive with their bolt cutters etc. Don't know how they will correct the problem without a random ranger who just appeared and started fining every one that was not obeying the rules etc. When I passed through in late October last year there were signs for no motorbike and yet there were many trailers full of trail bikes etc. I prefer Ayson's Reserve and intend to return there in a day or so for a few weeks and hope that is still in good condition as I use it several times a year. This is in the same shire At Ayson's Reserve they encourage longer stays for some folk and they take on the role of caretakers. Seems to work there. I am lucky as I tow a trailer and I always remove my rubbish and also others and I normally dump in a bin at the rear of a local shop. Have never had any problems with this, as if asked what I am doing I explain I collected it from a rest stop in the area and most of it came from their store and if I am to purchase my supplies there they should help remove the excess waste. Always thanked for the effort. Regards Brian

There is a small store just down the road at Corop - probably the best place for the keys to be available

The new owners of the Corop store would be very angry if Greens was closed to camping. She told me the majority of their income comes from campers at Greens. I am sure something will get sorted out. I've heard nothing about it being closed all year round only that the firies and police would like it closed for a week over New Year.
