Just got to allow that a lot of our roads where damaged and they could be still doing a lot of road works nth of brisbane

Hi everybody,
this is my first post and I am looking for some advice. My wife amd I are travelling to Cairns with our van where we will begin our 13 day OZTour to the top, and I was wondering how long it would take to travel from Melbourne to Cairns without busting the foofa valve. I know this is probably a bit of "how long is a bit of string" question, but we will not need to do a lot of sightseeing on the way up, we can do that on the way home. All we need is a few days here and there to have a bit of a spell from the drive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Tamey from us. Hope your trip is a very enjoyable one. Keep enjoying the forum. David is right - decide how much you want to do each day. You may be younger than us but we now only do about 300kms a day so we can enjoy the trip and the places we stay. If you have limited time, you'll have to do more kms a day. Just don't get too tired.

It all depends on how many roses you want to smell along the way. If the destination is more important than the journey, obviously it won't take as long. A trip like that would probably take me some months!

You can edit the routes to suit your Melbourne location and your personal preference.

May is the perfect time to head up here. The weather will have cooled down and the humidity will have decreased considerably. The days are absolutely beautiful, sunny, warm and dry. The nights can get a little cool so pack a light cardy. Enjoy your trip.
