I'm with you Daz, some youngsters do not know the meaning of hard work and some never will.
Good luck Dave, from what I can gather finding work in Tassie is certainly not easy.

Jeez.................You can't tell a teen to get off their asses and work.
For one............They don't know what the word Work means and two you must have hurt their feelings.
The world is going to be a hard place when this generation are the breadwinners. Won't work, can't work and who the hell will do the jobs to pay the taxes for them to have their hands out for the Dole.
No one working to pay taxes for them to get up in the afternoon and play on their Playstations all night.
Sorry you lost your job....with some luck it may be the start of something better for you. Fingers crossed.
Cheers

Talk about generalizing. There has been lazy youths in all decades and the world seems to struggle on regardless. It survived the Hippy generation of the 60's where many prefered to sit around and watch the flowers grow or go out on protests instead of working. It also survived the 70's when dole bludging was made into an art form. So, I am sure it will manage to survive this one.
I know about 10 boys who are friends of Hylda's son who is 23 & there is not one lazy one amongst them who doesn't want to work. And yes they like their computer games too.... even playing into the early hours..SHOCK HORROR
Never judge the majority by a minority.

Yup I generalised again. However it's a numbers thing. When we were teenagers yes the same as today there are lazy good for nothings and those that 'played the game' worked hard, studied and ended up as our generation of workers whatever the field they chose.
If you take maybe ten per cent( Back then) that were lazy and good for nothing there are now four times as many just on population growth.
Yes there are lots of good hardworking teens out there,no question of that.
Our aging population will be out of the work force in the next few years as well.
The tax burden on the hardworking teens of today...............................

A stint on the railway in my youth brought lots of sage advice from the old hands: One bit was to always carry a hanky to sit on because if the boss saw dirt on your bum from sitting down you were instantly dismissed!
Pity you got dismissed for doing something trevor, hope it all works out for you.

Work in Tassie is scarcer than hen's teeth - people are leaving in droves. One of the NW's top entrepreneurs (spelling?) is bailing for WA due to red tape and expense. State unemployment highest in country, NW has 3rd highest in country after Wollongong and - another large-ish East Coast region.
As for youths not working, I have worked with people of all ages, and laziness is not restricted to any particular age bracket!

I need to comment re playing computer / Play station games. I used to think it was time wasted but now I find I would rather spend the evening playing computer games than staring at the TV - flicking through channels trying to find something worth watching. How many adults HAVE to watch 'eg 'Home and away' etc or the afternoon soaps. How many spend hours watching TV - at least playing the games their minds are active
Remember also we brought up the children who now have children we consider to be 'lazy' - were we the generation giving them everything our parents didnt have? Not expecting them to have to leave school early to get a job to help the family survive? Our children are not allowed to smack their kids - all those 'experts' telling them where they are going wrong etc..... I think it is called progress - but in fact nothing changes - there will always be lazy people, and hard workers in every generation.

Big mistake. You should have given everyone an encouragement award for deigning to be present and accept their pay.
Then facilitated some discussion of the expectations and other limitations inherent to the 'traditional' (shudder, shudder) duties that discriminated against them. Obviously there needs to be job redesign to take such factors into account and ensure that the tasks and work environment are to their taste.
You are lucky the "C" bomb wasn't detonated. C being culture. But there are any number of booby trap 'isms'. Trigger one of those and you lose some precious part/s of your body, as well as losing the job.
Now I will just step back so you can be properly berated, PC style. Sorry.

Telling someone to get off their arse and get back to work can be done in several different ways. I currently have an orchard boss who has a management style that gets right on my tits. I just want to deck him. He could give the same message in a different way and I would be quite happy with him. It's easy to say it's their fault. I know that it's easy to knock the younger generation and say how much better it was in our day but my experience of youngsters is that they are just as conscientious as we were (or weren't) at their age and most of them are great. But they don't take **** happily.

Bad luck about the job. It sounds like you are in Tassie, dont envy your luck in securing more work here. Good to see though quite a few campervans in tassie at the moment and we are having very dry but nice weather, with no decent rains since september last year.
There is good workers and there are lazy smart workers, to smart and disrespectful for there own good, dont want to take advice what do us oldies know? I mean it was good advice to tell them to get off their posterior and have a go. Bit like when the groups of kids take over footpaths in the cities and expect everybody to go around them, not me I walk up to them, get right in their face and tell em to move or I'll go through em. They move.
cheers

I think you could experience a great period of depression and anguish from this experience and you might have to go on a disability pension.
Then sue the boss for wrongful dismissal and the pain and aguiss and then you will get your $700+ for one or more for a couple each fortnight from Julia no strings attached and perhaps a nice payout from the old boss and a sweet taste in your mouth as you tour our great playground.
That to me sounds a better option. Just need a symathetic doctor and demonstrate a frustration especially when you go the the funny farm and apply for your newstart etc. Tell them you cant sleep anymore and your worried etc and sow the seeds at the start.
The youngys do it all the time. I have met many people in their twenties or so on disability pension because of stress , cant read properly, TOO fat (sorry big boned not their fault) and then they are smoking and drinking and have their fancy phones etc and laughing how silly buggers HAVE to go to work and they can go fishing etc when they like.
Regards Brian
