If the air con is not working I guess the only thing to do is to get pissed!

It's on the Yorke Peninsular - on the west coast. South Australia. On Spencer Gulf.

Ken,
I spent time there over 20 years ago. Plenty of squid to be caught off the jetty there. And blue swimmer crabs abound in that area.

Thanks neilnruth, it makes it so much better when the state/location is shown.
A little while back I saw a post on Gin Gin with no state/location shown. There is a Gin Gin in Qld and NSW, also a Gingin in WA, so locations help. I don't think anyone knows every location in Oz, I wish I did.

Don't forget o try the cornish pasties while in the area.
Visit Kadina and Wallaroo.
At Wallaroo the prawn trawlers may be working and if so you may be able to get a feed of the boats for a reasonable price.
I have been away from it for a few years so things may have changed as the fisheries were making it hard toi make a living even 20 years ago. We were only allowed 5 scale fish a trip (14 days) between 3 of us to take home for a feed and we were not even allowed to give see fish away it was all thrown back over the side even though any good fish were either dead or that close as their swim bladders were damaged and they could not swim down so laid on the service waiting for the birds to peck them to death or so they could sink and then die on the bottom for the other fish to eat them.
Regards Brian

Ken, Moonta is the pick of the towns in the area, very interesting mining history, lot's to see and plenty to do, Kadina is the business centre for the area if you need to shop, Woolies, Macca's, major banks etc.
If you enjoy gelati, coffee etc visit The Coffee Barn Gelateria, just out of Moonta on the Maitland road, well worth the effort.
Shame the weather is so warm and you have air con problems.

I wonder why Santa says Moonta is the pick of the towns?? Haha. I probably agree with you though Santa. We really enjoyed the Copper Triangle. Hubby found a few relatives had lived there and made there mark including being a Mayor! Great area.

One of my great grandmothers, a daughter of a Cornish miner, married a Cornish miner at Kadina.
We stayed at the caravan park at Stansbury on the eastside.
Closed down a few years ago Duh.

Thanks Santa,
Just did a search for his books and came up with these links, looks like it closed in 2007, when we visited Mick (an ex SA Police Sgt) told us he had offered to sell it to the SA Government but they didn't want to buy it. It was an amazing place and full of history, I had never seen a museum like it with such a varied collection, see;
Port Hughes, the jetty is great and if you have a smoker, the tommy ruff smoke up something fantastic. Sorry, can't help with th ac, but from memory, there is a good spot next to the jetty to cool down!

Funny, I stayed on the Peninsula once but somehow must have missed Port Hughes, that is why I didn't recognise the name, but in retrospect would have been nice to have visited there too.
Good luck with the squid Ken.

Ken are you using a fish teaser or are you using the flouro lures.
I found that the old style rod style rig with a fish over it works better. Spuds are good bait as well.
Throw a fishing line in and I am sure you will soon get a "****ty - musical whiting - trumpeter all the same fish" use that as bait.
Contrary to most people they are a very sweet fish just fillet out the bones and the black lining (this will wipe off with a rag). When on the boats we often used them for fish soap as they agve better flavor than most of the other fish. I did work for an Italian though??
Have fun. My daughter has a shack there and is building her retirement home at the moment up on the hill.

Is the Currency Museum at Kadina still open? Last I heard it was closing down, although the building which was a former bank and heritage listed is still there I believe; http://www.heritagebuildingsofsouthaustralia.com.au/kad25.htm
