Not long to go and we are off to Queensland from Hobart, towing caravan.
Normally we travell via the Hume/Pacific highways, this year woould like to give the Newell a go.
Any advice on road conditions gratefully received.

It's ok most of the way, but not if it's rained up north. The scenery is beautiful - well, I thought so, each time I've travelled that way. Enjoy your trip, and remember to communicate with the truck drivers with your UHF, when you see them behind you in your towing mirrors.

Thanks CG,
Towing with the XR6T this year, so am a little concerned about ground clearance.
The only trucks I will see, will be well and truly in the mirrors.
Have a happy easter.

Yes, lots of trucks so sometimes good to take a parallel road to have a break from them. You'll find a few roads not far off the Newell.

Travelling south on the Newell at present, from Bundaberg to Adelaide. No problems at all. Highly recommend having a good look around at the Pilliga area, the bush camping behind Pilliga RA No.2 was great, and the sandstone caves are well worth a look. Not signposted, so look for the turnoff into Yamminba Trail about 28km north of Coonabarrabran (I drove up and down a couple times b4 I found it because Google maps didn't name the road). I found the stretch north of Narrabri a bit tedious, and some nut case has decided to put rubbish skip bins at all the rest areas in the Toowoomba council area (includes Dalby) , with the result that the locals are dumping their rubbish there and the stench makes the RAs unusable for travellers. Currently overnighting at Terramungamine Reserve just north of Dubbo (nice campsite with good fishing), and also recommend Hickey Falls (bit of road noise in the day and early evening but seemed to be pretty quiet for most of the night). Have fun

Thanks NR & DL, every bit of info helps and extras, like where to go an sight see, plus road side stops is a bonus.
Thanks again.

Thanks, on the way up we can stop at places and say we are "on our way" and when we return we could stop there and say we have "binnaway."
