Gidday Apprentice Nomad.
Blogs are great fun. We have had ours since "08, and up date very regularly. We use the same as John (yoeleven) a google product. Our original blog http://theretroroamers.blogspot.com was run until Google wanted money as we exceeded our photo allocation. So we simply started a new blog http://theretroroamers2013.blogspot and away we went again. Both link to each other anyway.
It is very simple to set up, just experiment with different layouts, you will soon get the feel of the whole concept. If you go into either one of the blogs we have, you will see followers, and once again they are travelers who also have blogs.
We have made some great friends through these blogs, and it is all good fun.
Hope that helps
Cheers and beers

I use tumblr.com, It's free, easy to use, you can upload photos and automatically post to facebook & twitter. A great way for friends and relos in far flung places to keep track of your travels.
You also get an easy web address like ... http://midlife-crisis-gapyear.tumblr.com/
