On google - go to maps - you can set it up for the whole of Australia or just a state - you just type the name of the place in the search box at the top, save to maps, then save to your own map - you can then send it to family and friends as a collaborator via their email address - that's what I do anyway.

G'day fellow travellers,
Just another 8 sleeps before we commence our maiden journey and whilst we have all of our destinations "nutted out" I'd still like to be able to display our stopping points on a map to give to rellies so they can follow the progress.
I've tried a variety of trip planners like the RACT, NRMA etc but they all only allow for a limited number of towns and cities to be input. As we are going to take 5 months on our journey I'd like to find a program that would map it as a red/blue line marked on a map of Oz.
Does anyone know which program might do it for us?
in the current communication 'age', if you are taking a internet-enabled phone (ie smartphone) with you; and your desired contacts/friends own one too...
then they can track (almost) where you are courtesy of the 'see wireless location' option available on your phone....look in the settings option
Its not for everybody BTW...of course, it will work as good as your carrier/reception does and may detail where you have recently been, but....everybody will know..... .
Maybe worth considering as another avenue anyway

I don't like the idea that "everybody" will know where I am, so would prefer to use the google maps option - knew someone who had that on his phone, and it just seemed too intrusive to me - also I like that I can update the google map whenever I like - I have a lot of fun, trying to remember some of the places, would hate to leave somewhere out!!!!!!

Thanks ellen and joe but I really wanted to prepare a map showing out intended journey PRIOR to our start.
Besides which my mobile phone still has a crank handle attached to it.
