As an ex-Canberra resident I feel qualified to advise on cold! Its likely that the wind factor will be the coldest feature of the Victorian coast.

Get yourself some warm clothes, you can layer over the tee-shirts you already have. Tracky daks are much warmer than jeans. A waterproof jacket will help keep the cold wind from whistling through your jumpers. Sox are best if they are real wool instead of the synthetic type, although the Explorers are good. Knit a skarf, or buy one at a market somewhere. A hat is likely to blow off, but a beanie is warmer and stays put!

Hi Margaret, yesterday was lovely in Melbourne, and we will be good for the weekend in the low 20s, but expect the great ocean road to be about 4 degrees cooler. 

Next week is forecast to get cool in Melbourne (mid teens), so I reckon it will be cold on the coast.

.. Currently its quite pleasant at Boomi in NSW .. nights vary between 7 - 12 degrees C .. and next weeks daily predictions vary between 27 - 30 C .. nice time to be here !

Oh Gerty, How right you are!  we did a stint of house and dog minding years ago for our son while he travelled overseas.  It was end of May and June....I have never been so continuously cold in all my life and I am a cross country skier!   We have camped along the Great Ocean Road twice, can't remember it ever being as cold as Canberra but then again it was a fair while ago so can't remember exactly what time of year, but do remember it was very windy,   cheers  Capricorn

It is bloody cold here in Inverell let me tell you.  When you go outside at night now you can smell all the wood fires and I am so jealous lol.  We have a gas heater and we have had it on for a week now.  It is getting down to about 7-8 degrees C now at night.  Have already got the nine blanket feather doona on the bed hehehehe.

As a died in the wool Queenslander, I can't stand caravanning in the cold.

I usually live & eat outside & find it intolerable to have to rug up to do this or to have to eat inside.

Though I don't mind kayaking in a wet suit.

We use a good quality doona & carry a spare for the cold places (got a 100% silk one in China last year - haven't tried it yet).  I use the reverse cycle aircon to warm up the van & then an electric fan heater to really heat the place up.  In the morning I reach out & turn on the electric fan heater for a few minutes before I emerge.

Best advice is to go north close to the coast as soon as it gets cold.  Bugger the rigid nipples!

Beautiful days here but 7 degrees last night.

  a beautiful 26 degrees today in the lower blue mountains and predicted to be in the mid 20's for the next week but I am still envious of those heading north, we went north last winter and would love to be doing it again this year but the budget does not allow fo it so maybe next year.
