Cannot believe what i have just read , regarding some bakery businesses wanting to ban electricial shops from selling breadmakers,due to the fact that they recon it will end up putting the bakery out of business.Were will it all end...Does that mean that before long we will not be allowed to fish ,as it might just put the fish and chip shop out of business.

Breadmakers to be band ? What sort of band are we talking about? An elastic band? or a music band? I think you mean banned, don't loose any sleep over it. It won't happen.
I rarely ever buy bread. I have a breadmaker at home and one in the van and use both all the time. Much nicer than the crap that passes for bread at the supermarket.

You got that right JR, I would rather eat a piece of cardboard than eat the store bought kind, breadmakers are very popular despite the ones discarded by those who are just a bit too lazy to persist enough to work how to use them properly. As for the article, the media that reported the bakery's comment must have had its tongue in its cheek!

Gave some thought to buying a breadmaker after my in-laws got one. They use theirs often and love it. The smell of the baking bread is almost intoxicating
However, apart from the initial cost of the breadmaker, the cost per loaf is very high - I can't see the value for money despite "knowing" what is in the bread. But then again, just how much do you know about the 'makings' you buy pre-packed to 'make the bread'.
If I want 'good' bread, I just go to bakeries that make it on-site - they are usually good in the smaller towns away from the 'franchises'
Returning to the OP - sounds very far-fetched for any bakery (especially one of the franchises) expecting homemade bread machines to be banned. Ya gotta wonder.

Maybe you're buying the small one loaf bread mix packets. If you buy your flour or mix in larger quantities there are significant savings. I don't buy mixes but rather straight (unmixed) breadmaking flour which I can get in 12kg bags from a flour wholesaler. I have found that to buy good quality "bought" bread that comes anywhere near the taste of home made bread costs at least $5 a small loaf. That mushy additive laden garbage you buy at the supermarket is obviously much cheaper.
I have used "Lauke" mixes and can recommend them as they have fewer additives and are based on good quality high protein flour.

I have made a loaf of bread a day for the past 6 years....worn out 2 breadmakers and on my third.....you've never had toast until you taste your own thick sliced bread....not to mention fresh ham cheese and vine tomato sandwiches.....Yum... Impossible to ban.....are we going to have breadmaker police?.......they are flat out trying to contain the nightly Sydney shoot ups...!..absurd.. Hoo Roo.

I rather liked the 680grm sliced square loaf from WW. Haven't seen it made for a long time. Ploughmans and Tiger yes. and what happened to their so much advertised fresh bread with no aditives. It all seems to have been droped.
I won't buy the recognised brands after I was told they no longer bake bread locally and it is trucked from Sydney and is at least three days old before it gets put on the shelf. This was by an employee of one of the branded breads stacking the shelf.
Wonder if agreements from those branded breads have stopped WW baking and now they can only make their cheap loaf or specialty bread. Anyone else noticed this?
