We prefer single beds and one of the main reasons is that our van is small 14.5 ft internal and single beds give you a lot more usable room as you don't loose the space each side of a double bed.
Another reason is it is much easier to make up the bed as we lift the mattress up off the bed and make it up while balanced on the table then return the mattress to its place. As we have got older it has become more difficult to reach over the bed and tuck the sheets and blankets into place, due to back problems. Cheers David

Hi there. Rob and I prefer singles, there seems to be more room in the van and it's easier to make rather than a double. If it's not an island bed the person sleeping on the inside has to climb over the other person to get out of bed. My opinion.

We love our single beds lots more room to move and one of our beds is longer for the taller person which for me is great. We both have cpap machines and the single beds make their use much easier

My Jayco Heritage has single beds and I wouldn't have it any other way...better design giving tad more room and storage underneath... our little dog jumps from one side to the other during the night....so do I occasionally although its nourishment not punishment I look for now.....make sure they are good quality innerspring...single give less sag I feel than a double like we had in our last Van......you can move without disturbing your partner....go for it Curly....I used to laugh at my Grandparents single beds when I was younger....Hoo Roo

I so wanted single beds....but Les wanted double...he won. So I am stuck with a queen mattress than doesn't fit queen sheets. I might try the double bed ones. I hate it. I'd go for singles any day.

Our Jayco has an east west extendable double.
Easy to make up. We use a fitted bottom sheet & normal top sheet with a good quality doona. We keep a spare doona in the overhead cupboard for occasional use if in cold places.
I would consider singles only if space is a problem. Not an issue in the 21'6" van.
But our first choice was a double & we are very happy with that after 14 years.
No sag in the slat based innerspring mattress. Put an egg shell overlay & mattress cover over the mattress.

We second that. Our Sprite/Starcraft would be full if we had a double bed. You only just get a double into most smaller vans anyway. A queen bed really needs a wide van so you can get around the sides to make it up each morning.

Make the bed? Wot dat? The only time I make my bed is when the estate agent comes around for his annual inspection. In my camper, there's a double inner spring in the cab over. But there's only me so it dozen madder. No one to crawl over. No sheets either. My next door neighbor was talking about sheets and I said WHAT??? Who the hell needs sheets? I've got a sleeping bag. Sleep on top in warm weather, inside during cold. Roll up in morning. Boom boom. In summary, I prefer a double to a single, but only because I'm single and I can have the whole double to myself. Is anyone confused?

Ours is a 15 foot, with island double bed. Its one of the few things about the caravan that we would never change. Sure it takes up a lot of room and there's only a narrow walkway on each side, but I don't have to reach over to make it with my crook back, and we like sleeping together!
Do you sleep in twin beds at home? Is the caravan going to be a long-term home or just for short trips away?

I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to tell my story.......at Mission Beach a lady was showing me her new van, pointing out the single beds she said that she preferred them because it means she could have more cupboards, my comeback to that was I would rather have cuddles than cupboards! The husband very eagerly agreed with me....as the argument ensued I very quietly left and snuck back to my own van and stayed there until the storm passed!

Mine has a east west double bed. Bit of a story here...
When I went to put in a new mattress, I discovered the double mattress was too long for the spot. My sister and I were doing it, so we dragged it back out, slit open the stitching, cut the end off with a big serated knife, stitched it back together and heaved it back in again.
As a solo, I love having the double all to myself, but I would have been happy with 2 singles because a girlfriend would like to travel with me sometimes.
I have married friends who had singles and went back to the island double because the wife was feeling the cold too much without her 'heater'.

I must say making a single bed would be preferable to making mine. It fits in quite snugly, so changing sheets is a challenge. I also use a single doona instead of a double. It's plenty big enough for me and there's no overhang.

Hi, We have single beds. Ours head backs onto the front of the van and our feet onto cupboards. This makes it too short for us. Also beds are different widths. Ours is 900 and just ok.
