Hi, i am contemplating having a satelite dish mounted on the caravan,as opposed to having a satelite dish that i have to set up and locate a satelite each time i move on,Has anyone out there got one mounted on their caravan??

I have one on the roof and wouldn't be without it. Extravagant but worth every cent. Being a solo lady traveller I like the security of not having to step out of my MH after dark, and when travelling in remote areas it is great company at night time.

No mine is free standing ,but they are not hard to set up ,but if you are a solo i would go for the roof mounted set up,just for personal safety for your self.
Check out their European Snipe receiver. Looks like it will do the job and cheaper that other brands. Of course being satellite it will work anywhere in the world.

We have an Alden on the roof, the only problem I find is finding a clear line of site so the dish can lock on to the satellite.
Other than that it's just a matter of flicking the switch and the dish does the rest.

We have Solo Sat which gives us the best of both worlds. It is a free standing unit so you can move it about to avoid being blocked by tree's etc. but automatically finds and locks on to the satellite like the roof mounted models.

Smiley.....We bought a dish recently in place of the on the roof model after we hired a motorhome recently in NZ for a month that had one.
We found that parking under shade (which is what you try & do if its summer)...restricted the reception we picked up...At least with this dish we can move it into a clearing.
My only reservation is....Getting it stolen as they are ''hot property'' for backpackers etc to steal and very easy to on-sell down the track....We will be buying a chain for it before we head off inland next month...(as well as one for the gas bottles...they tell me they also go missing out there)

When I pull into a camping site I always check the compass so that I can park in a spot with clear line of site of the satellite. Unless it is extremely hot I prefer to park in the open because of solar panels on the roof. Not only that, I hate things dropping from the trees . A small seed pod can sound like a rock when it hits the roof.
