I was reading the local paper, The Townsville Buliten, and this article on a roll over on the Gregory development road came up. Its a single lane bitumen road frequented by big B double and triple trucks. This is what excess speed and bad verges on the road can do. Both ocupants wer not badly hurt, thankfully. If you see a big truck coming SLOW DOWN, and get off the road , if you can, safely. Its a bad way to end a holday. Bill
There was a thread a while back talking about UHF radios and listening in to convos between truck drivers so that we can be aware of wide loads, road trains, etc, approaching, and take appropriate action.

I was under the impression most GN's had a UHF fitted, obviously not.
We have a UHF tuned to ch40, we monitor it constantly while on the road and use it at least a couple of times each day to talk to truckies who want to overtake us, wouldn't be without one.

Bill,
Did you read about this recent one with two dead and seven injured?
<Tragically, they died at the scene," he said.
"This is a heart-breaking reminder of how important it is to take care and drive safely on our roads, whether taking the kids to school, out for a weekend drive, or sadly as in this case, travelling for work>
We take seconds to read about it, but their lives and those of relatives and friends are changed forever.

The picture reminds me of the couple whose van and tug rolled on the Eyre Hway... then looters stole all their stuff out of the vehicles! Hope the owners of this rig were able to get their stuff out.

I bought a 5 watt UHF radio from China and programmed the 80 uhf channels into it and also scan the local Rural Fire Service frequencies. Good value.

Thanks Sheba. How is it now?
BTW, I liked your post on the 'motorhomes hogging centreline' thread. You were quite reasonable I thought.

The link is working OK now John, thanks. Wondering if this accident is a bit more than a road problem though. Have you noticed how many accidents lately involve Overseas Fruit-pickers in Mini-bus-type transport ? I'm wondering if the drivers of same are from overseas too.
This latest was a Head-on collision. A lot of other countries drive on the other side of the road. Would be easy to forget some-times.
Cheers,
Sheba.
