Why do we need a "study" to tell us what has been bleeding obvious to the majority of motorists for decades ? ? ?
The ACCC has instigated "a number" of "inquiries" in recent past and always come up with "the fuel industry has no case to answer". BOLLOCKS ! ! !
I again use the example of milk ... the price of a litre of milk does not fluctuate depending on where you live ..... so why is a litre of petrol/diesel like the pants of a bloke with diarrhea

Further confirmation of my view that the ACCC is either incompetent or acting for vested interests.
I believe that they are and have long been,the problem!

Be glad you don't pay $1.76 a ltr like me. I could go to Townsville, NQ, and fill up, but its $120 on the barge. I would like to see a transparent enquiry into fuel prices, but everybody, the pollys, the service stations, the fuel suppliers, etc, have a hidden agenda. It would be nice to see the truth, now and again. Bill

Bill I have recently returned from the Sunshine Coast where I paid $1.19 for unleaded petrol at a servo in Mooloolaba,an independent one I may add.Coming back down the Coast yesterday guess what the price was once I hit NSW?$1.51.The mind boggles,same road,same same petrol outlet.Ah well such is life.Lol.

Fuel prices have always been an absolute rip off which is strongly encouraged by the ACCC who have never done a serious inquiry into any major company that has produced an ongoing benefit to the consumer. I purchased LPG at Taree on Thursday and was shocked to find it at .57 cents per litre but very happy I am now less than 100 Klm away at Port Macquarie and the price for LPG is now .86 Cents per Litre the cost of Freight must be enormous or are the people of Port Macquarie being abused by the fuel companies.

11 months ago , diesel in Cloncurry was $1.72 / ltr . . . . 100 kms away in Mt.Isa it was $1.50 .
That is 22cents difference , and it had to be carted an extra 100kms into the bargain .
The ACCC is a wank .

What we need is real competition for the oil industry.For those of us old enough to remember ,we had some thing called C.O.R. The commonwealth oil refinery, as well as a few other commonwealth owned industries.It would be nice to see a completely government owned oil industry from exploration to the retail outlet,with the interests of the public in mind.I guess I'm dreaming.CheersPeter
And the funny thing with all the price of fuel - we still buy it and we still travel with our caravans.

On my way to work on Friday morning our local 7/11 was $1.39.7 for diesel on my way home it was $1.46.9 someone please tell me how these robbing mongrels can justify this, so i drove past went to Woolies/caltex also $1.46.9 and got 8cents a ltr discount wont go go back to 7/11 till price drops

Yeah ... but the issue is not the price of fuel ... the whole country needs fuel every day, not just we travellers. Industry, transport, energy generation - the place would grind to a halt without it. We will always have to pay what they charge no matter what - and if I am outback in Woop Woop I fully expect to pay a higher price - due to the lower volume for the seller meaning a lot of fuel sitting in a tank for a long time before they can recoup their costs of buying and transporting the fuel to their isolated pumps.

The difference between towns, and sometimes within towns, is astounding. Surely for such a staple requirement for our economy's production there could be some standardisation.
It is difficult to find a solution. The oil companies are very smart in how their pricing strategies work for wholesale pricing - meaning they supply different servos at different wholesale prices. So smart apparently, that the ACCC cannot see through it - or chooses to ignore it.
Quite apart from Woolies/Coles who subsidise their fuel prices through their supermarket profits, and those who blindly buy at Woolies/Coles servos without a discount docket.
'nuff sed ... ain't gonna change coz no-one in authority gives a bugger

And on the issue of fuel,not one ltr of the Gas that is going to be produces up here in central Qld is staying here in Oz ,it is all going off shore.And like fools we probably will have to buy it back from these countries at inflated prices.

... but the issue is not the price of fuel ... the whole country needs fuel every day, not just we travellers. Industry, transport, energy generation - the place would grind to a halt without it.
