Just got home and the phone rang it was the A'Van company that was selling our van to tell us that they had sold it for us it took almost a year to sell so it came as a real surprise now we can start looking seriously for a Toyota Campervan and will feel that we will soon to be back on the road thank goodness. Hi Helena, congratulations on selling your van, we will shortly be in the market to buy something. We are still new to his and easily confused,, I think there are two types of Avans the A shaped caravan and the Avan replacement of winebego, I think.
which was yours, if the motor home can I ask why you sold it. Selfish question I know but I still need to learn.

We had the A'Van camper exactly the same as Dougie's loved it but arthritic hands made it impossible to help Bill put it onto the tow bar of the car. We decided to go back to a campervan as we travelled in one years ago. Not a selfish question Poppy sore eye we all need to learn and are all here to help each other that is what the forum is all about I have been lurking in the background as not travelling we felt a bit out of things. Plus the fact I think we are the oldest on the forum. Take care every one and when we get our wheels hope to meet some of you on the road. Helena.

Poppysoreeyes - there are actually three types of AVan - the "A" shaped one, a normal caravan and the motorhome - all good units from what I have heard.
Helena - are you looking for a Coaster type or HiAce?

That's great Helena, at long last, I remember when you talked about that. Sad in a way but exciting at the same time.
I still love my Avan camper but need to sort out some sort of inexpensive heating for when free camping and not just rugging up like an eskimo. I really feel the cold.
I have a small oil column heater for when hooked up to 240v but gene has to work really hard otherwise.

Hello Doug You could buy one or the gas heaters that use the gas canisters but will need to have some ventilation in the van but may defeat the purpose if the heat goes out the door keep looking Ken

Hi Dougwe, I have a portable gass heater that runs of a small gas bottle. It is like one of those flat patio heaters you se outside cafe's, but designed for indoors, you would of course need some ventilatin but an open window would be fine. I will post a photo tomorrow if it would help. Available from rays outdoor.

Ken....As I said, I leave one of the front windows open about 2" and that with the vents mentioned I reckon I would still be in the land of the living the next day. I would turn it off while asleep though just in case I didn't wake up.

Sorry to hijack your post there Helena so to get back on topic a bit.
I take it that when you say Toyota Camper, you mean Toyota Coaster or is it a Toyota Campervan as in "Wizbang" ? I reckon you would have had more room in the Avan. No offence to people that have wizbangs. Oooops, I will be shot at dawn for that one.

Hi everyone thanks for all the congratulations we are looking for a whizbang and I have heard that instead of having the sliding door which seems to upset a lot of people you can now have a closing door fitted something we will be looking into just can't wait to get back on the road again. Helena.

Thanks Neilnruth we really can't wait to get back on the road we are only buying a cheap whizbang as we don't know how much longer we will be able to travel but will sure make the most of the time that we have left. Helena.

I've seen hinged doors on the larger European Whizbangs, never on a Toyota though. I met a lovely elderly couple in a Hiace that they converted themselves. Had had 3 Hiaces and transfered the same homemade furnishing over each time. They must have been around 80 ish.
Lots seem to be going for diesel heaters these days. Seems to be some cheaper brands coming on to the market. still not cheap at around $800.
