My son works for a company that has them attached to earth moving equipment that is usually left on-site over weekend. Whilst they haven't had any equipment stolen yet, they were warned by security that before someone knocks off your compressor/bobcat or whatever, they will have to have a quick scan over the machine to locate and disarm any tracking device. On a caravan it might be easier to disguise the location. Good Luck and welcome to the forum

Buy two kits. One can be a cheapie, even a non-functional dummy. Hide it in plain view. The real one can be hidden elsewhere.

Hi Denis
Unfortunately caravan thefts are becoming more common, and things such as hitch locks are easily removed by experienced members of the ungodly
at least a tracking device gives you another level of security

Hi Paul
I am waiting for it to arrive from china (could be the slow boat)
But I believe you just need to insert a pre paid sim card to keep in touch with your mobile phone You will be allerted if it moves from a set location, also able to track on google earth on lap top

Hi Fencer,
It is a great idea, and given that it will be tucked away out of site and reach, be wary about the prepaid you use, as most expire after a period of time, they can then be tricky to reactivate.
Try to get one with a long expiry, note the expiry and put an entry in your calendar to check if it is still working each month.
It is one of those things that you forget about after te novelty has worn off, and then when you need it it does not work anymore.

funny that i put the same item up in a thread about stolen vans and know one really gave a dam with the 1 i got has a telstra sim card you have to remember to charg the batterie and pll out the sim card now and then and use it in a old phone because you will loose its conection i think you even have to buy more credit . unless they have changed the way they work for these trackers .
best idea yet one phone call tells you where you van is if its stolen
I just had a look at some, and the one I saw didn't mention it, it tells you, that you need a SIM card, and that the batteries included are rechargeable. Plus it's from here in Australia.
This sounds like a great idea for the caravan. We will be getting one.

Thank you. I understand what you mean now. I have done a lot of research into these GPS Trackers. I'd like to get two I think, one for the car and one for the caravan. This way I can tracker either of them, if we need to. Great idea.
