When I was youger and stupid , I did some banana humping at a farm nr Innisfail, NQ. Bloody hard , back breaking work as the stalks weigh up tp 100kgs, and all sorts of insects , and the odd snake, live in them , also.you end up covered in the black soil that they have around the farms. I took up skippering boats as it paid better and was a lot less work. Bill

Shed work or field work ? I've done some picking etc [ no bananas but practically everything else ] and there's a huge difference between the packing sheds and the picking and carting. Knew a couple of Poms at Bowen who had done some time in the bananas at Tully, they were originally from Manchester and they had left the UK thinking Manchester was a wet place but had to rethink that assessment after working in the bananas at Tully. Backpackers seem to be getting these jobs above locals these days.

Those bunches are HEAVY!! Dirty and hard work, plus you have to watch for snakes, and run the risk of getting leptospirosis from the rat urine, not to mention the effects of all those chemicals they use on the plants (and sometimes carelessly on the workers too). I wouldn't do it for any amount of money, was bad enough living close to farms and having respiratory problems from overspray.
Any of our GN attempted this at all?
It looked easy on TV.
Cheers
Do you mean on a farm or just in your backyard ?
Cheers,
Sheba.
