I usually go Kingaroy, Dalby, then various ways to Goondiwindi. Either Moonie or Cecil Plains etc.
What about Dalby, Moonie, St George, Hebel, Lighting Ridge and back on to the Newell further down, maybe around Griffith.
Does that sound ok and what are the roads like in the second option.
I have 9 days to get from Biggy to Echuca.

Hi HW, I was out that way a month ago and went from Walgett to Bourke then down through Cobar to Griffith. The roads are all sealed. Lots of emus and goats near road, Rod

Hi HW, the road via Hebel, Lightning Ridge is in very good condition, minimal traffic daylight hours but as Rod mentioned in his post a lot of emu's and goats and of course 'roo's . Its a very interesting drive and we loved every minute of it.
Fuel was around $1.50 + (diesel) at towns like Wilcannia, Cobar. For some "reason" fuel at Bourke was 10cents dearer so check with motormouth or similar if possible to avoid being stung.
We stayed at Nindigully "freecamp", beautiful spot, cheap shower at hotel and toilets 24/7.
Have a safe and enjoyable trip.
cheers

My suggestion would be to stay north for another couple of months.

It would be warmer if you come via the coast, but horrible traffic, and roadworks.

Thanks for all the suggestions so far. Have decided after going over the map again, I will come back onto the Newell at Gilgandra, . Bollon is a bit further west than I intend to go Pauline. You tell my daughter to have her baby in the summer Tezza and I can stay up here where it's warm
