Good news Jim and thanks for the update. I've just done mine so it'll be interesting to see how it goes. I couldn't get my fridge out without a major operation but I was able to stuff felt packing down the sides and over the top. I don't know how effective the felt will be compared to the batts so it'll be interesting to find out.
One of the problems with my installation is that it's physically impossible to locate the upper vent high enough to ensure proper convective airflow over the condenser so I suspect I'll still need the fans when the going gets hot. I imagine this problem would be common to all camper trailers similar in style to mine.

Many my remember the topic last december on the three way fridge insulation that I done, to which I provided the info to many GN's
We are now three mths into this trip & have to say that the fridge is working like never before.
Yes , we are into cooler weather now which helps, although we did have some 32 deg days in the early part . Some times on a cold night we can turn fridge off at bed time & its still below zero in the morning.
Even while travelling on 12 volt it stayes very cold, often remaining below zero untill lunch time.
Have not had to run the fans any more. Its now made a fridge out of it for a little work at no cost.

As a result of that thread I had a close look at mine & found that the top vent was too low, leaving the whole of the condenser fins exposed.
Best I could do without major surgery was to block off the bottom half of the vent causing the air to flow over the fins.
On my next trip it seemed to be working much better, even with the fridge side facing north west.
Be interesting to see how it goes at XMAS.
Thanks to Jim....

Landy; go to search window & enter- who has put fans on van fridges-- (2/12/12 by blaze)
Have a read , & see the trouble caused by a person, his loss our gain.
Then search, -some test results are in on the fridge insulation; 19/12/12 , posted by my self.
If you wish to go further let me know.
Cheers mate.
