I have just fitted a power chip from Italy and WOW.............turbo lag basically gone, better economy, a gear higher up the hills and I reckon it would now give a Hilux a run for it's money off the lights.

Has he checked the safety features, or lack thereof? Personally wouldn't touch them but that's me and a personal opinion.

I have a diesel fitter friend whojust took oneto Cape York and back thruthe gulf country, on mostly dirt roads with no damage at all. . He says they are old tech, but have a turbolag problem as its only a 2ltr diesel. He is trying to remap the fuel comp, so as to get the turbo to come in lower, but is waiting as it on its first service.The price is attractive. Bill

Would it be possible to find out what it is he intends to tow? This would enable a more reasonable assessment. Post the details and let's see what we come up with.
I will however at this point say, I personally wouldn't entertain one, at all, even if I was just buying it as a run-around. But if that's what your friends budget leans towards, lets have a look at the figures, weights, fuel etc............

They have a very low ANCAP rating (none of us plans to have a prang, but still...) and a 2L diesel sounds a bit small for towing much. But I daresay it's cheap to buy and economical to run, so the pros and cons are a personal choice.

Do not know much about the Greatwall other than not seeing many on the road towing any thing ,other than the tradie or the odd farmer putting around town in them.Only my opinion but to me they appear to be marketed to be on the list of the throw away vehicle .But maybe I am wrong.

I think I am 'fair' to give anybody a fair go . I would Not touch one , with your barge pole .
I hear even some of the 'desperado' panel beaters won't touch them - too much Asbestos in them .
I have only seen 1 in Grafton , but I only eversaw 1 Tata .

It won't be long before we will all be driving Chinese cars and the quality will be as good as anything that is available now, but you won't be able to go past the price as they will be a lot cheaper than anything else that is available.
I think they will be on a par with other makes within 5 to 8 years and the brand Long Wall has the aim to be the biggest manufacturer of cars in the world.

I remember conversations like all the above in the 1960's when the first "Toyotas" were being marketed in the UK. None of the big dealers had them for sale. Always the small "Arthur Daley" type back street dealers had them at bargain prices compared to European Cars.

We are almost owned buy over seas companies now.
Was reading an article before on ABC news that said Holden in SA could be closed by this Christmas.
