We're heading off from Rockhampton around the block in a few weeks, travelling anti-clockwise. Rather than going all the way into Townsville, then turning left onto the Flinders Hwy., I was thinking of cutting off a bit by taking the Woodstock-Giru Road north of Ayr through to connect with the Flinders.
I've heard it's a bit steep in places. Has anyone travelled this road recently? Is it in good nick and suitable for pulling a van?
Any help appreciated.

Welcome Newsman. When we have been in doubt about a road and not able to get up-to date info, we leave the caravan at a safe place and drive the road in the 4WD. Of course it takes time and fuel, but its all part of the adventure, and better than being caught on an impossible road.
Evening all...
