Chris and Peter Hi.
I never done the whole trip up to Ravenswood but been to Clare Ok.
Clare to Ravenswood don't look a problem as most of the maps I have showing a bit age all show it as a main secondary road with some
well formed dirt.

We went toward Townsville then to Ayr/Homehill, didn't do the other shorter route, wasnt sure what the road would be like. MIght pay to ask a local person.

Shouldn't be a problem, bit of gravel on the last hilly bit but all fair to good graded road.
Just fuel up before you leave the coast and you should be right.
last time we were there camped at the Showgrounds on the way in from Ayr / Homehill.
When you leave you can go South from Ravenswood to the "Burdekin Falls Dam" and then across the river below the Dam and then down to Collinsville. Very good drive and you can camp on "The Bowen River" just past the "Old Bowen River Pub."
I believe it has been restored and is built out of slabbed timber. Well worth a look.
Gravel all the way to "Collinsville" from the dam. No problems. Great country. Don't go to Mt Coolon unless you want to.
Alternately you can leave Ravenswood and head North to Mingela and you are back on The Flinders Highway.
Tar all the way from Ravenswood to Mingela.
Wonderful cruising country.
Don't swim at "The Bowen River Crossing."
The "Old Bowen River Pub" was on the packhorse mail run from Bowen to Adelaide. Fair dinkum.
Have fun Haji-Baba

$14 per night or $70 per week at Ravenswood showground. Lovely toilets and hot showers. We were there a month back.

Haven't been there since the last big floods but the concrete road way was part of the dam wall the last time I crossed over it.
I know there has been a lot of water over the wall in the last few years but unaware of any damage.
Maybe the Van park at the dam can be more informative.
It will be a pity if the road through there is closed.
Went from Bellando to Bowen 2 years ago and the "Dam Road" to Collinsville was open then.
Pretty good cruising country up there, lots to see, and plenty of good safe camp sites.
Have fun Haji-Baba.

Haji-Baba when did you last use the road at the bottom of the dam wall , I was there last year and the road at the bottom of the dam wall was closed because it had be badly damaged did not look like there was any quick fix

I would check with the water resources before setting out from Collinsville hoping to be able to cross on lower dam wall road it looked unrepairable this time last year

You may be correct Brickies, but anybody should check before commiting to roads like that.
I am sure people at the Dam or Ravenswood would be in the know.
Chris and Peter will be able to get up to date info from local sources I am sure.
My biggest worry on those roads is the next fuel stop. I have never had that problem before with the old 80 Series Criuser but my new vehicle is a Colorado. 76 liter tank. So I will have to watch it.
It is all good fun anyway, enjoy your travels.
Have fun Haji-Baba.

Thanks everyone for the info. Locals in HH said that it was bit rough and didn't want to recommend it.
We ended up going to Macrossan Park just out side of Charters Towers and had a nice night there.
We went via the Giru Woodstock road and it was really good and i am pretty sure you could tow just about anything on it (i'll post on the recent topic re this road)
We will put Ravenswood on our to do list as it looks really nice
Thanks again for all your help
Cheers
