Hi all, our first time up the east coast of Qld. Been travelling in the big rig and having problems with free camps, due to the size of course. ideally we would just love to pull up for a week or so and do a bit of fishing on the beach/weir/dam. Open to suggestions from grey nomads that have done it personally. We have a 30' bus with 20' trailer, heading on the Bruce Highway from Sarina at present to Charters Towers, via Mackay, Bowen, Ayr, Townsville.

Hull Heads Campground.
Not free but a nice spot to stay for a week or more. Great fishing and crabbing and right at the mouth of the Hull River.
I think it's $13-50 a night.
Cheers Sol

That's one big rig alright obviously most parks couldn't accommodate your parking needs

Hull Heads would by ok for you to fit,but it is first in best served kind of thing.
You said you wanted camp for a week or so,Hull Head is only available for 4 nights.
It is a great spot walking distance to water.
Has hot showers and free gas Bbq ,nice mowed grass.
All this low cost camps up around this area are now only a max of 4 nights due thanks to people just propping foe weeks on end.

Have stayed at the Caravan Park at Cape Hillsborough. Also driven around the area so probably been to Smalleys Beach. Just Googled it and came up with this :
"Be mindful of the fact that esturine crocodiles may be around, also box jelly fish, so swimming is at your own risk."
