Hi there everyone, thought l would introduce ourselves to you all. My wife Leanne and l have recently purchased a Bluesky 21ft Fairhaven van. We are probably alittle younger than alot of Nomads, but our life experience makes up for our lack of years. Recently we undertook our shakedown journey in our van and completed around 5k in just over 2 weeks, (sick relative)....we could not be happier with our choice of van and tug....Anyway as almost empty nester's we plan on getting on the road more and longer as the kids roam futher from home. One of the trips l really want to do is a prospecting tour, any info on this type of trip would be great....we are interested in having a go at all forms of prospecting from Opals, Sapphires etc to fossicking for Gold.
Cheers
Shayne

G'day Shane and Leanne. Welcome to the forum. There are a couple of prospectors lurking here and you'll no doubt bump into them eventually. There are also a few casual fossickers. Anyway, stick around and enjoy the forum.

Welcome Shayne and Lianne,
Don't worry about age on this forum (freehazza's also), we always need new blood and ideas etc here, some of us started here a lot younger but the years have been stacked on since, lol !
I did a bit of fossicking and panning around Sofala and Oberon in NSW, but other than some fool's gold and semi precious stones (eg; garnets) didn't find a lot, I do remember Oberon was dam cold.

Welcome Shayne and Leanne. Hang around here and you'll soon pan some gold in tips and ideas.
Did some detecting and panning round Ravenswood and Charters Towers Queensland many years ago on a Miners Permit. All changed now with many places under long term mining leases.

Wow, thanks everyone for the welcome and the tips. We are already planning our next trip, maybe up to Lightning ridge, having grown up in The Golden Triangle in Victoria l spent my early childhood with my father and grandfather and countless hours prospecting for Gold in in their secret haunts..(with little success as l remember)....So l really would like to have a go at finding some precious/ semi precious stones and gems, even if it,s just to tick it off my bucket list.....Then maybe get a Gold Detector and revisit some of those old Diggings and Mines and creeks from the early years . My real passion at the moment is cooking on my Weber Q, l will have a go at cooking just about anything you could at home,, but my greatest success so far is Damper on the Weber......WOW.....if there is a trophy for Damper they might as well just give it to me now...hahahahah......really hope to be able to let you all try it one day.....again thanks for the Welcome
Safe Travels to all

Rubyvale and Sapphire in Qld is a beaut place to just have a scratch around, another little place a little further down the road from thses two places is Willow,we have had some ripper finds out there.
Mt Hay is another little beaut place to while away a few days it is about 30mins from Rockhampton Qld ,you can fossick for Thunder Eggs and Spherulitic Rhyolite. There is a c/ van park also on site. If you find any stones they will even cut a couple of pieces into some thing free for you.
Also a lot of little places in what is known in Victoria as The Golden Triangle is probably the best place to fossick for gold.

welcome Shayne and Leanne .. We are also interested in metal detecting .. We have the detector but are yet to really try it out. We have visited on this trip several places where metals and gemstones have been found in both past and present time But did not get the detector out. we are interested more in the beach detecting but not near any at the moment ... perhaps on our next trip down NSW south coast in October. One thing that i have still to investigate is the legalities re permits and where you can chase the elusive treasures!
we also have the Webber bug ... You will love what you can do with them ... If you have any great success stories and recipes, throw them in the cooking forum for all the foodies to salivate over!
enjoy your travels and drive safe
