I found it interesting . If you can do the mine tour with the carvings in the tunnels . I always visit the local cemeteries in outback towns it gives an insight to just hard life was in some outback towns. You have take the time to nose around and talk with the locals to get a feeling of life out there and anywhere away from the big smoke.
The Bowling Club has the best meals in town , we stayed at the first van park as you go into town, only a short walk to the club for meals and a coldie the free mineral baths are up the top town was closed on the day we went for cleaning .
If you make it to Dubbo a self guided tour of the old goal is a must if your interested in our early criminal history it's a real eye opener .

We leave Brisbane this weekend to travel along the Darling. We are thinking of having a few days in Lighting Ridge. Is it worth the stop.
I am betting that it will be " Bloody Cold" out on the outback plains. 8 degrees this morning in Brisbane. That will like summer compared to Lighting Ridge and Bourke.
We are also seeking and hoping to find some of the artesian hot springs.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hey!!!! Guys,
Thanks heaps for that info.
As the grand kids would say "3 more sleeps to go", and then I guess it will be " are we there yet." But no G. Kids on this trip.
Thanks

Great place , The " Ridge " .
Do some of the " car door " trips , and stop at some of the places selling opals along the way .
There are some real characters out there .
If you just stick around the town , it is probably a bit boring . Get out in the real mining areas .

The Grawin fields are a must, esp the pub in the scrub. We found heaps of good opal out there in the big heaps. Love the Ridge and the people.

Grawin is the area where The Pub In The Scrub is located (suburb of The Ridge ) loved the golf coarse next to the pub. not a blade of grass to be seen, but who cares they still have a great time hitting their balls around a brown patch of land. They have not got far to stagger into the pub to quench their thirst.

Hi. If you can picture a triangle with Lightning Ridge on one corner, Brewarrina and Walgett on the other 2, then The Grawin is just about in the middle. It is the current Opal Fields consisting of The Grawin, Stockyards and Glengarry.
Great place and must talk to the publicans and locals. Verrrrryyyyyy interesting individuals. KB
