Neither of these roads are what you would call the best, however the Oxley Hwy,( wauchope-walcha) has the longest section of mountain climb very slow & windy.
The Bellingen /dorrigo is the more sceinic.
If you are passing through Kempsey & wish to say G/day then let us know.

Kempsey is a great area, spent a week in the rehab hospital after breaking an ankle. Quite an experience.
I'd like to have a look at Bellingen/Dorrigo road and the Wauchope one as well.

As long as you take it easy it would be fine, there was some discussion on this a while back...take it easy and minimise the excessive gear changes so as to stop overworking the transmissions etc. 30km is only $6 or so in fuel so maybe work on that principle if on a budget.

Hi Crocodile....I live at the base of the Dorrigo "hill"...but I've never pulled a van...so ...I don't know how much help this is...but although scenic, that Dorrigo climb I have been told has the steepest gradient of any road in NSW...I don't like it even in my car,(I used to work up in Dorrigo.) If others more experienced with towing have had success, well they'd be the ones to listen to.
Cheers

Ok, keep it in mind when you get here as we are only a couple of minutes from the show ground.
We did go last year, don't know about this time, see whats happening at the time.
Catch you soon.

Hi, Having towed different vans over the Dorrigo range for some 20 years I have found it to be slow but quite okay as long as you travel steadily, avoid too many gear changes and keep an eye out for heavy trucks. I have found it to be a better trip than the Wauchope road .

Have done both ways back to home at Wauchope and think Dorrigo is marginally better in both directions
