I have already used this link to apply for our postal votes.
Is the 'E' vote in yet? They were discussing it in the parliament segment on the ABC. Apparently they were trying to get it 'in' for future elections (including this one) for disabled persons, the elderly and voters who are going to by away. Unfortunately I missed the end result and can't find a repeat of the session.

I thought that in the federal election you could vote absentee at any poling booth.

Absent vote: Electors who are out of their division but still within their home State or Territory, may cast an 'absent vote' at any polling place in that State or Territory. Postal and pre-poll vote: Electors who for various reasons cannot attend a polling place anywhere in the State or Territory for which they are enrolled on polling day can apply in writing for a 'postal vote'. The Divisional Returning Officer (DRO) will then send them their ballot papers which must be posted back to the DRO before polling day. Alternatively a 'pre-poll vote' can be cast in person at a divisional office or pre-poll voting centre in the lead up to polling day.

Gday...
As I travel full-time, I have been registered with AEC as an Itinerant Voter for the past five years.
For those of who may be interested, this site provides some information you may wish to consider.
We have done the same as we will be in transit on day of election.
Cheers

Gday Alwyn & Rhonda welcome to our forum as active participants I hope you enjoy the forum.
My only concern regarding postal or any other of electoral voting is that they are all politicians and I absolutely hate encouraging them.

The only problem with applying for a postal vote is you have to hang around a certain town/area while waiting for the return ballot papers .
Best to register on line as itinerant traveller, but make sure you are in internet reception area when you need to cast your vote.
Have been given this link to apply for a postal vote for those traveling it maybe helpful to others http://www.aec.gov.au/election/pva/
