we are back from our trip to the tip we did plenty of free camping so our dometic fridge was running all the time on gas and the last bottle did not last very long
how long should last a 4.5 kg bottle before we run out of gas ?
thank you

It very much depends on the ambient temperature as in hot weather the fridge has to run for much longer periods to keep cool

Depends on the size of the fridge, my 105 litre fridge freezer runs 3-4 weeks on a 9kg bottle.

My rule of thumb is 1 lb of gas per day, ie 4.5 kg equals 9 days.

do gas bottles run when your driving?
or does fridge go on 12 v for that ?

It shouldn't make any difference what size the fridge is, what the ambient temperature is, or if fans are fitted to the rear of the fridge. The burner flame remains at a constant height (& Heat). The fridge temperature is controlled by altering the flow rate of the gas, not by altering the height or temperature of the flame. Cheers, Ozjohn.

Hi John
To the best of my knowledge in the fridge I have, the temperature of the fridge is controlled by the one thermostat for both gas and 240v I don't know of any valve in the refrigeration system that controls the flow of the refrigerant in an absorption fridge.
Cheers

the ambient temperature definatly affects the eficcency of the asorption fridges. The use of fans is to extract the exhausted heat away from the enclosed cabinet area which improves the the cooling of the external surfaces of the the enclosed installation. I also try to park with the fridge side of motorhome out of direct sun.
