It"s not just heart surgery this time, its complete replacement. Yes the workshop has pulled the motor down and the prognosis is not good.
Some of the valve stem heads are chipped and breaking up.
One broken valve spring.
Piston ring grooves are worn.
Cam shaft and crankshaft needs grinding.
Timing chain worn.
Have taken the option of a complete new motor. Rang Brunswick Diesels in WA, they said the previous owner had had some overheating problems. They gave me a good deal on a new model motor and agreed reconditioning the old one was not an option. Tomorrow it is being shipped over here to Port Augusta. Should take a week to ten days delivery.

Yes, if anything else blows up we will have to pack up and go home, but then there would be no more pavlova, date scones, pikelets, sherry trifle or camp oven casserole
Bill, the cruiser started life as a petrol.
I have never been happy with the motor, I thought it should have had a lot more grunt than it did, and also used a bit of oil. Now I know why.

Just like your Kiwi Prime Minister said yesterday, Bugger.
Bet you said "Not happy Jan" I spose at least when it is all done and dusted it will be just like a bought one.
Hope all goes well from here on mate. Get Lorraine to take some pics of the surgery. I hope you give the old heart a good send off too.
Thanks for the phone call the other night as it was good to chat.

At least you will be set forever, problem is you need deep pockets for a job like that.
Take care and get that new tug moving asap.

Yes, Wombat. The pockets are looking a bit sad. Nearly time to "pass the hat around".

Bugger; If we could only see the future it would have been better to have replaced it back in Melbourne instead of doing the other work.
You will have to stay here a few more years now to make it worth while. If you were not half way accross the country from us we would have relocated you van back to Melbourne for you.

Sorry to read that guys. I guess when it all comes out of the wash it's the best way to go. At least you are starting from a know place but still hurts the bank balance none the less. Take care as you go.
