Saw a m/h in the car park in our local town the other day. As I was interested in the m/h I went and had a talk to the owners - which turned out to be only one - a lady. I had a good chat to her - she has been on the road for 16 years around Aust. 3 times and always free camped. First m/h was a hiace but she has upgraded to a walk through bigger one now. One comment she made was that if she decided to get another m/h she would change the bed setup as it was really hard to make the bed. I asked was she worried about travelling alone etc. etc. and her reply was that the only thing she is worried about at the moment is that one day she may not be able to renew her car licence because you need to have a test every year when you turn 80 - my reply was do you mind me asking how old are you - reply was I am 86.
Wow isn't that wonderful and good on her.

Great story, Nelly, and vindicates my belief in the healthy benefits of being a traveller. Thanks a bunch for posting it!

Inspirational! I hope we are still doing it at that age.
Yes some people after they retire just sit and show no interest in anything. Don't understand it myself . Life is so much better when you get out there and just Do It.
Good on her and I hope she is doing it for many years to come.

Hello Janette - the lady was driving a Mercedes - I tried looking for a name I think it had lifestyle written on it somewhere - I think that it was probably about 21'/22' long. Other thing that I remember her saying was that she went on the camels on Cable Beach - had to get off as it hurt her back but she is not on any medication for anything - that says something for the lifestyle doesn't it. The night before she camped near the bowling club at Inverell. She (I wish I knew her name) said that if ever I bought a m/h I was to think of her and for me to make up my mind while I was able to get out there and see it all. I actually saw her leaving town later in the day and she was going with the flow of the traffic not just putting along.
Also thanks for all the positive replies - it really is something that is inspirational.

Possibly a Sprinter Nelly. That was what my sister had at first, 'till she upgraded for something a bit larger.
Cheers,
Sheba.

While fishing yesterday I also met a couple of people who just made my day just that much better (even though the fish were not biting )
The come from Theodare QLD. Lady was using a walking frame and told me she had been diagnosed with type one diabetes back in Feb this year and the husband has diabetes and other health issues. I guess they were in there mid eighties. Due to the husbands health issues regarding flexibilities turning his head they have had to sell their 30foot bus,and now have a smaller motor home to travel. They also had two beautiful little white dogs. The lady told me GEE I MISS OUR BIG RIG, but we make do and am grateful for still being able to do what they both love... As I was talking to these wonderful people I realised how if you really want to do some thing you enjoy there is always a way of doing it...

I'm with you Pam.
People at work often ask me since I love my job (nurse) why I'd consider retiring when I turn 62. I just say "so I can enjoy travelling around this wonderful country while I'm still healthy enough to enjoy it!"
Can't wait. Just two years, two months and three weeks to go, but I'll continue doing my local trips until the day arrives.
