I have a .2micron filter attached to my mains pressure hose when I am connected to mains taps in van parks etc so all water into my tanks and the van itself is filtered to some degree.
I also have one of these connected to the tap over the sink in the van.
Every bit of water that enters my cute liddle (rather round) body comes from this tap filter in the van. Even the bore water at Quilpie came out of this van tap filter smelling and tasting clean.
I have not experienced any tummy upsets in my five years travelling.
Cheers - John

Hello, hello. hello. I've noticed water filtration systems at the local supermarket and wondered about them after having read comments on the forums about the variation in water quality on the road, including water not recommended for drinking. Some GNs buy bottled water for drinking but have said it can be quite expensive in areas where water is relatively scarce. Sooooooo, does anyone use a water purifier/filter to turn suspect water into drinkable quality? I imagine it would be much cheaper than bottled even though the purifiers can be quite expensive to begin with. It would also mean being able to obtain drinkable quality anywhere anytime.

I've owned several small hiking type pump filters like this unit:
In the olden days I also used purification tablets, but the taste was an issue. With the small pump I filter enough to last a few days into a bottle for drinking and cooking.
I also have a home made filter ( 1m PVC pipe with one end cap with a small hole, charcoal, sand and cloth) just to help filter out bugs etc before putting into the camper water tank when dealing with any suspect water sources, but not for drinking.

Hey Gary we buy these off ebay $45 + postage $13 and they work fine for us.
Ideal for Caravans & Campers
or use as a portable filter around the house.
New high flow AIC-K with brass quick connection hose fittings.
Great for filling your caravan tank or in-line from tap.
New 5 Micron Activated Carbon filter with KDF media.
Activated Carbon removes Chlorine, Bad Taste & Odours, Dirt, Rust, Algae & Sediment and the KDF helps neutralises Chlorine and reduces the chance of bacteria growth in the filter extending the life of the filter.
For Clean and Great Tasting Water
62mm x 335mm including brass fittings
Can handle up to 125psi mains pressure
(most mains pressures are about 80--90 psi)
Service life of 6000 litres or 12 months
Flow rate up to 20 Lpm so it can be used on vans with showers.
(the slower water is filtered the longer the contact time in the filter which will remove the highest level of contaminates)

Thanks for the info. One quickie - do all the places where you normally fill your tank have regular taps that take standard hose fittings?

Gary, I found that through the NT and parts of Qld that the taps are smaller IE NSW taps a re 32mm and NT & Qld are 25mm. I use the click on adaptors.
The system has worked well for us for over ten years. It is an easy do it yourself project and simply filters all water that you consume not the shower water or washing up water.
Yes the cartridges are a little exy however they do last a long time.

Been travelling full time for the last 2 years . Filter the water going into the tanks and another filter at the drinking water tap in the van .
Sometimes used bore water . No problems at all .
Just don't use non-potable or recycled water . Info centres or the local pub can tell you where to get drinking water .
