Hi, happened to be talking to a salesman in a camping shop about solar panels and he told me I shouldn't use our 3 way fridge on 240v for more than a few days or a week, not good for it, use the gas. Never heard of this before. He said it was something to do about the small heating element (??) that could be destroyed. Anyone heard of this, or any advice?
Thanks.

We have a 3 way in the van- over 10 yrs old and has never been on gas.............works a treat.
We also have a 3 way portable - over 6 years old, rarely run on 240 volt, usually on 12 volt, hooked it up to gas for the first time this week..... works a treat.

I think the word 'Idiot' would adequately describe the salesman.

Ours has been going 99% of the time on 240 for three years non stop. Only done one element so far and that was in summer when there are a lot of power serges in parks. Easy to replace them and dont cost too much.

That's the best yarn I've heard in my 50 odd years in the electrical trade I'll mention it to my students next week and see what their reaction is if it designed to operate on 230v that's what it is meant to do , suspect I'll send him a note and ask if its ok to run my water heater all the time on 230v

the dometic 3 way fridges seem to burn out the 240V element more often that you'd think was normal. There are a couple of threads on here and other forums about it. Mine burnt out a while ago and I have purchased a new 240V element to replace it with, just gotta find the time to do it. Oldtrack seems to have had a bit of experience with these fridges (and probably others) burning out the 240V element, he'll probably post some info once he sees the post.
