I just checked, its a 2 minute silence in Britain since Armistice Day first began after WW1, and is 1 minute silence here in Australia nowadays. When did we get too busy for the extra minute?
Edit: Just checked again... its always been the one minute in Australia.

I agree with briche - we wouldn't have the wonderful country we have today if it wasn't for those brave people - sometimes I wonder what they would think today if they saw what is going on here.

As I am at base camp this year I am going to my RSL to remember all, with the others gathered.
I was in Kiama last year and we did a minute silence in the CV park.

Remembering the soldiers who didn't come back in my family.
Leonard John BANFIELD died 22 August 1915, at Gallipoli
George JACKSON -Lambton- died 25th october 1916, buried Villers- Bretonneux, France
John Gilbert REAY -Wallsend- died 31st October 1916, buried in France
Hunter (Harry) SINCLAIR -Wallsend-died 10 the January 1919, Courtrai, Belgium
Andrew SNEDDON -Wallsend- died 23rd February 1917, buried in France
William Lesley Hunter SNEDDON, - Minmi- died 17th June 1917, Messines, Belgium
Also remembering the women who waited for husbands, sons, brothers, lovers and friends.
When we remember I often think why my Grand Father fought in France, Why I lost a great Uncle on 25 April 1915 at Gallipoli
Why my Father fought in the Middle East and New Guinea during the Second World War
and even Why I went to Vietnam.
We all had the same idea, Our loved ones at home can live a free and healthy way of life, the type of life most of us here have grown to enjoy and take for granted.
A country were all could freely follow their own religion and its customs, a place no one was afraid to say Merry Christmas or happy Easter
A place were no one had to be so politically correct they do not offend others.
Sorry if I am sounding a bit off here but what got me in this frame of mind is that today I heard that the wearing of a Poppy should be curtailed because it may offend people.
Freedom has a taste the protected will never know..

When I retire next July, we are going to Europe for 3 months, and sitting around the campfire this weekend, I was asked ?? Of all the places that we will be going to in Europe ?? Hey dazren I'm not clever mate that's for sure. Regarding Europe and Villers Bretonneux Go for it mate Roxy and I went there in 2011 in an attempt to find the resting place of my Grandfathers Brother who's photo it is that I put up on the site. I have been the only member of the family to do so and it is very moving. I could tell you heaps but make sure you stay at Ypers and Menin Gate they do the last post every night at 8pm you will be moved as I was for sure.

Today I paused to remember those who fell to enemy action before I was born and when I was too young to serve.............................and to my mates who died while serving in peacetime when I did serve.
Their loss is no less painful.
RIP guys, we will meet again for a beer I am sure.

I was going to have my say about the issues above but decided this wasn't the right time or place, maybe another time in "I digress" perhaps.
I remembered today and will never forget and proudly had my poppy on display, if anyone got offended, too bad.
