This might look like a strange question but here goes. A friend of ours is looking for someone who may be able to bring a dog from Tassie to Melb. The dog is a small Border Collie. We will be able to provide a suitable cage to transport the dog. The owner is looking to get him as soon as possible.
We will arrange for someone to meet you to take the dog off your hands. The costs that may be incurred will be covered. if you can help then please PM us and we will contact you about the details.
thanks in advance.

Have you examined the cost of getting the dog air-frated - I did that a couple of years ago from Brissy to Adelaide and I was surprised at how cheap (relatively) it was.

Yep I'm with you D and D we just got our new puppy a few weeks ago she flew from Dubbo to Sydney and then Sydney to Moruya via REX air only cost $160 cheap as.

I flew my new pup from Brisbane to Perth for $160 a few years ago, so probably still cheap from Tassie to Melbourne.
I also had to hire a crate and meet at the airport on arrival. he crate was then left at he airport.
This was with Virgin A/lines.

I enquired through a pet shipping service a few years ago and it seemed expensive at the time. I think the air trip is not too expensive, but more so delivery to and from the plane.

You don't have to use a pet shipping service provided you have someone to deliver the pet in an appropriate container to the freight section of the airline and then someone to pick it up at the other end. You may also want to consider a trip to the vet to get the pet checked out to make sure they're OK to travel in this way and to get them some sedative for the flight.

Good idea by D and D about the sedative, as my dog is still very nervous of noise and is very skittish, I blame the flight over in the aircraft hold, must've been very traumatic to a young pup just away from its mum and siblings.
I remember picking her up from the airport and she arrived in the rain on the back of one of those airport tractor trolley things, her container was wet through and she was huddled in the back corner with her blanket shuddering, took her several days to calm down.
