What a fantastic man. He gave so much of himself. I'm glad he lived to a ripe old age after all the tribulations he had to endure. RIP

Yes, may he rest in peace!

A wonderful man I have a lot of respect for, he could have come out of jail a very bitter man but he did not. May he Rest In Peace.

After 27 years in jail, most of it in solitary confinement, its extraordinary that he should become such a brilliant leader, practising what he preached about love and forgiveness. My condolences to his family and his country.

A great man who stood by his beliefs, and saved his country from civil war after the apartied era. He , like Gandi, proved that violence is not the way to reconcile differences. RIP. Bill

What's life like for a white fella in South Africa today?
AFAICT, they're all living in fortified villages behind wrought iron fences, protected by expensive security systems.
I think that's the real post-Apartheid legacy.
BTW, I'm just playing the Devil's Advocate. Apartheid was evil, no question about that.

Depends where in S Africa. The fortified fences pretty much describes Johannesburg but not true in all cities by any means. Hylda's sister lives in East London & you don't see much of it there at all.
