Often people on this forum give reasons why they will not stop in a particular town, usually it is because the town does not offer free camping etc.
I was just wondering about this after I read an article about Cardwell in FNQ. They have banned Christmas lights in the town because it offends 100 members of a minority religion
would this make you think twice about stopping there.

I don't think any town council could ban you from putting up some Christmas lights.

Maybe it's just the local Shire not putting up xmas decorations etc not the residents. Some Councils/Shires won't put them up for the reasons given.
I would avoid, or drive right through Blackwater Qld.
I was trying to find the police station because I unwittingly had only one day left on my licence. I asked at a servo, 3 blokes here and there around town, and someone finally said, ask at the court house. When I got to the court house it was closed for lunch. I gave up and drove on to Emerald. I found the Transport Dept there no problem, and it was done in a flash.

Obviously the minority JC - when some people wakeup it is going to be too late to do anything about it. Some of those people have been fighting each other for thousands of years - why are they going to stop now just because they live here.

Time for a mass outbreak of Atheism... Followed by a dose of Secular Humanism.
Well that's my utopia anyway.

Nature will take care of the fatalistic problems created by ideological humanity, the way things are looking with climate it won't be that far away before ideological humanity gets what it deserves for its destructive approach to life. Very interesting times ahead for us all.

Or we should be more selective who we put in power ... and the majority of the population perhaps need to show less apathy to "politics"

I had to bypass Cardwell a couple of weeks ago as they put up 'No Camping' signs where I usually stay at the south end of the beach.

Absolutely, it's about time we stood up for what this Country represents.
We need to take back control, I have no issue with any one that wants to reside in Australia, but except our way of life and if you want to practice your own beliefs do it in private as I do when I travel overseas.
As a youngster I was told respect was earned not just a given..
it's about time we stood up for what's ours and our heritage.
How dare some one tell me I can't up up Christmas Lights I'm offended by that!
Avoid them/These spots like the plague!
Take back ownership of our Country before we don't have a place called home!
I said in the second post it was a furphy. Doesn't anybody read before posting.

Firstly, welcome to the forum Gadge - there's lots of experience, knowledge, opinion, humour and plain silliness ahead of you on here. Join in and enjoy.
Now, I think quite a few seem to see the Thread Title, open it and read the OP. Then if they want to provide comment they simply click Reply on the OP and provide their observation/comment/opinion etc.
This is rather than "joining the conversation" by reading the OP, and scrolling down, progressively reading ALL the observations/comments/opinions already proffered and THEN "continuing the conversation" by adding their own observation/comment/opinion.
Works for me - but I guess their way saves a lot of wasted time reading what has already been posted.
Cheers - John

That's a shame Beth. Not that the town is somewhere I'd particularly want to visit or stay at, but during my stay at nearby Bedford Wier I had some problems with my gennie, and got friendly help from a couple local business people. It is only a very small town with limited services, but either you were unlucky and got there on a bad day, or I was lucky to get there on a good day! Anyone else have any experience of the place?
