Hello. Heading off to Central West end of this week. Wondering if anyone knows if Blackall woolscour is open for visitors (wasn't July 2013); and what is the situation with water at Quilpie? Is it suitable for visitors to drink, cookin, etc. Only asking because water quality/taste varies wherever one travels. Advice on these questions appreciated.

The water at Quilpie is OK. Has a strange smell but tastes allright.
It is bore water, but the locals have been drinking it forever. You can fill up at the local info centre.

Thank you, sandsmere. We intend going and it is what it is. Just hope not too much traffic is going that was from Charleville now the direct southern road is closed after the truck accident. Cheers

we went from Eulo to Quilpie to Windorah about 3 weeks ago. Water was Ok from the tourist Info Centre - smell was gone the next day. Nice and reasonably priced meat from the Quilpie butcher. Good service from the hardware/tyre service too (we shredded a tyre as we entered the town)

good town Quilpie. Agree, the butcher is very good.
Also, good pies at the bakery and very good meals at the pub.
We have stayed at Lake Houdraman about 6kms out of town a few times too. Free / no facilities.
