I have been trying to find a Public Weighbridge here in Down town Townsville Nth QLD. Not easy. Mr Google wasn't much help. Yellow and white pages spat the dummy. I rang a local and he mentioned the traffic people have one and where to find them, they were closed for Reno's when I got there. I decided to ring the Local Council Office and was told the waste transfer station will do it for free with no ticket. No problem as I just wanted to know the weights due to some work I have done in the back of the collie.
As I got in the car and a call came over the UHF for a radio check so replied and the bloke and I chatted for a few minutes, he also told me about the waste station.
It appears there is actually no public weighbridge in Townsville anymore from what I have been told by various people today. The closest listed PWB is in Charters Towers. All seems very strange to me.
There were 2 down around the dock area but no longer, just private now.
So if you are in Townsville and want to weigh your tug or den maybe think of the waste station. I went to the Harvey Range Road one. I still have to do a fully loaded one prior to leaving here though.
I might ring the RACQ and see what they have to say.
Mmmmm, hope that was quick enough.

What are you calling public weighbridges? What I know as public weighbridges are the ones privately or council owned and are open to the public.

Hi Doug,
I asked my brother who lives in Townsville, he says there are a couple but the most accessible would be Steel Recycling in Bolam St Garbutt, Bolam St runs off Pilkington St next to the railway line. Hope this helps.
Cheers
Joe

Thanks Darmc, I thought there was one over that way but couldn't find it.
Thanks Joe, I found out about that one from Dept Transport and Main Roads head office in Brisbane, late yesterday afternoon and has a hefty cost for a printed ticket but not too bad to be told only.
After receiving an email from Sims Metal who I emailed about it was said that due to the cost of running a weighbridge people are going away from 'public' use. Makes it difficult to get your vehicle weighed though.
All good as the transfer station were very helpful in the end. Once the Collie is weighed fully loaded there should be no need to weigh again, unless I make other changes that is.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Try the Magnetic is ferry as they have a weighbridge for the trucks that go to the island. They weighed me for nothing last time, and I fpond the camper weighed more than I thought. You have been there before. Phone them first. Bill

I did go this morning past the main transfer station in Hervey Bay this morning
And ask the bloke there if caravans were allowed and what would it cost
The answer was that they do it for free
Cheers John

Thanks for the input everyone, all sorted now and successfully. A little heavier than I hoped but under. I have taken most stuff out again and will sort through it all before I leave Townsville ????? The van is ok anyway. I was just wanting to weigh the Collie again after some changes I made.
I do wonder how some set ups I see on the road do it though, what with a boat on the roof and the back loaded up with some heavy looking stuff. Over weight I would say. They probably don't worry about the ball weight of the van going on the back of the tow vehicle either.

Sorry forgot to mention I weighed it at the Council Waste Transfer Station both times, empty and loaded, the cost was $000000. Thankyou Townsville.
Just a quickie.
