For interest sake - have a gander at these minimum hourly rates for the Yew ESS of AYE from 1938 to 2009. I reckon our mob have had it a bit better ... although our 'cost of living' was higher I guess.
I reckon these rates were what Macka got when he was in his early 30s in the army, or sailing his yacht/s around the world or whatever else he was doing back then.

When I first came to live in Perth way back in 68, the local Ford Dealer still had Model A heads on the shelf. !!
Her is the costs of living in the U.S in 1928............
Dollars & Cents Median cost of a new home - $4,250 Average yearly salary - $1,490................ Equates to around $ 28.5 per week !!!
