We purchased a new Jurgens poptop van in July last year and because we retired early did a fair bit of traveling.
As some of you know we have now bought a coffee lounge in a small country town, retirement did not last long...............lol
We intend working the coffee shop for about 5 years so now we have to decide if we sell the van and purchase another van at a later time, or store it in one of our sheds.
My questions are:
Should I disconnect the battery terminals for the storage duration?
Should I use jack stands under the van to keep the wheels off the ground?
The way I see it, if I don't remove the terminals, we have to charge the battery on a regular basis.

You May just accumulate enuff bikkies to head off
with a much nicer van and tug at end of project.
Then won't want to use this one.
Look at both ends of the stick.
And don't be tempted to put money from van into business
if it don't go too well.
Get out.
At least you'll still have a home.

Macka is making good sense today ?? IMHO also you should sell the van while it is pretty new and looks good. In 5 years time it will be 6 years old !! and will look like it.
As far as the battery goes it will need charging regularly any way in the van or out of it. But in 5 years time it will be at the end of its life anyway so use it some way now out of the van if you keep it. A very small panel connected to the battery is a good way to keep them topped up.
If you keep the van I would jack it up off the ground and let the tires down a bit and keep the light off it all including the tires.

Rethinking about selling now, I do have a full caravan cover if we decide to keep it.

A sensible decision. As Macka said..Look at both ends of the stick.Put the money in a term deposit for the duration or buy some bank shares that are fully franked.In 5 years you should have enough to buy another new one and cover any losses. Best of luck Farmhouse.

I agree with what the others have said - both options. There is a "For Sale" area on this site as well & there's Gumtree but you often get crank calls on that site (eg at 11.30pm at night, "Would ya take $x for it?"). I sold a tinny & our Eagle camper on Gumtree.
On our last trip back from Warrnambool in January, I checked the tyre pressure in my vehicle's spare tyre & found great difficulty in getting the cover back on. I had trouble to in the past but this was worse. So I checked the tyre & found it was a size too large (275mm wide instead of 265). Not only that, I found the tyre (not used in the 4.5 years I've had the car) was 10 years old! There were no cracks in it & looked almost new but I replaced it anyway. The tyre dealer said even though the tyre had been on the back of the car for most of that time, the fact that the cover was on, shielded the rubber from harmful UV rays.
A friend in Townsville jacks his van up & stores the wheels under his house so while they may be older, they are in good condition.
