Hi All, Last week we had an issue with our caravan awning, the material is delaminating, the top and bottom vinyl is coming away from the matting used as the middle of the sandwich. The caravan was delivered in 2011 (brand new), while it has been out in the sun most of its life the awning has always been rolled up. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this issue, I am guessing because of the age the manufacturer will not replace so it is an insurance claim.
Cheers, Bob

Hi bob, i recently posted in hints and tips on this topic.
We had the same issue with our van that is also a 2011 build.
We replaced ours and made a protector to hopefully extend the awnings life.
6 years is a good innings i would have thought.

Had a problem with ours last year. Was a new van delivered in 2012 so the awning was 4 years old.
We received a lot of comments from other caravanners such as" never seen that before " etc.
Spoke to dealer , no luck sorry out of warranty , same response from manufacturer.
Because of fellow caravanners comments then rang the supplier Dometic who admitted it was unusual but nothing they could do because out of warranty.
After many discussions , e-mails etc they agreed to supply the material at cost and I then got it fitted by the dealer, about one hours labour.

Seems to be a common fault with Dometic brand Bob. Have a look around and see what else is available.I am sure you will find something to suit.

Hi.
If you ain't yet.
Measure it. and send dimensions to "Aussie Traveller" in Brissie.
I've used them since they opened, near enuff.
They have probably the best reputation.
My Last van 2002 model. Awning still as good as. Used 3 months annually plus other trips.
Won't be cheap. BUT You get what you pay for.
Another one down in South of Adeaide too. By the old refinery.
(It was still on line when I lived there)
I have a "Carefree" cover here. NEW. Never used. They can't cut straight.
If oversize to you. you could get it recut even.
Was keeping to use as opposite side cover on this van for carport.
PS. NEVER buy a Carefree.. You certainly DON'T get what you pay for with them.
What size do you want?.

Our Dometic awning started to get delamination bubbles at eight months old - had it replaced under warranty but they replaced it with wrong colour and said take it or leave it - Who wants a black awning on their van? We don't so now we are hassling the manufacturer/dealer over this and many other warranty problems.

We went through the awning issue, the Dometic 8300 which is usually the one fitted by van manufacturers is the cheaper version, the 8500 which is the heavier vinyl costs a bit more but worth it, it has a limited range of colours, we went with black to match our van and it doesn't seem to generate much heat

I used some sicoflex and painted the top part of roll on top with paint similar colour . To protect from UV rays . The odd bump against tree branches etc doesn't help ..

Thanks to all those who answered my request for info, I have now ordered new fabric from Aussie Traveller, I am assured by their rep it will go onto the Dometic roller so I do not need all new hardware.
Cheers and Thanks again.

Yes it's annoying having to replace when the rest of awning is like new .
