I fixed my water pump without having a clue.!!!! It had been running on after I turned off the tap for some time and was getting worse. All I did, was take off the cover, inspected the little bowel that sticks out. Unscrewed it looked to see if anything was blocking it and screwed it back on. Checked everything else to see if anything was loose no luck. Put cover back on and tested. What??? Working perfectly!!! Seems things can be fixed without replacing which is what I was expecting I had to do. Sorry about the untechnical terminology maybe someone knows the correct terms.

Yes its got me beat. Usually after a town water connection with pump off when we go back to tank and pump the bloody thing keeps running on. I have swapped out 2 pumps in 4 years.has to be something simple re different pressures????

If what you are talking about was the filter bowl, them perhaps it wasn't screwed tight, and was allowing air into the pump. Was it a transparent bowl?

That's what it was. Not screwed on tight enough.

Had the same problem with the pump running on recently the battery in the van must have been a bit low even though it was showing 12 volts on the meter,I checked it by hooking the car up and feeding some juice into the system with the car alternator, fixed it..
