Newbie to the forum and have a query. It has probably been covered previously so apologies in advance.
Recently purchased a Golf Savannah 499 full van.
Are there any rules relating to length of saftey chains apart form the obvious of not being tooooooo long.
Reason for query - I want to add an extra rated shackle to overcome the hasell of tightening the shackle pin that gets fowled with the tow bar tongue retaining pin.
Thanks for any thoughts.
Cheers

Just ensure that the length is not too long to cradle the tow bar when chains are crossed beneath it if it come off the tow ball - can cause a major problem if van comes off the tow ball when travelling and A Frame digs in to the tarmac.

Been done to death But you cant use a second d shackle rated or not . Use a hammer lock which is available at any good industrial supply company.

Let me rephrase that, two shackles joined together will not always sit heel to toe and that where the strength is. a hammer lock will sit right and work properly. government legislation or not .Dont need ADR to tell me whats safe
$5 to do it wrong $6 to do it right ?

Thank you all, particularly Outlaw40, I was not aware of hammer locks so I will get two now.
