Just wondering my caravan is about two years old and is fitted with a 110 amp AGM battery ,lithium iron are the way to go obviously,but the very high price tag to replace a system that's doing the job does not make sense, unless you can just connect the new lithium battery up to your existing Agm system, I suppose this is not possible and you have to spend big bucks and renew everything....

Terry will be the best person to assist you do it at reaalistic prices and you will probably be able to keep much of your own equipment.
As far as cost is concerned it's certainly a more expensive investment, but most worthwhile things are really.
Check out my comparison below, haven't done it yet, but it will definitely be happening soon.

Maybe it's a dumb question but I was asking it in as simple a way as I possibly can,I don't think I can just replace my stock battery with. Lithium battery without going to a lot of expense obviously from your reply looks like I asked a stupid question in your mind eh...

For a person with a little time and perseverance.
Li-Ion battery's are one of the favourite battery's to power things.
A lot of these electric bikes run on Li=Ion power packs.
Which are made with a combination of 18650 LI-Ion battery's.
Plus, They just happen to be the ones in your Lap top. (6 or 9 per)
Open the covers sometime and see them all stacked up in there.)
They can be made up to quite a large capacity providing you follow the rules. TO THE LETTER
They can be very volatile if miss handled.
I power a stack with an 80w panel I have kicking around. just playing. (have over 100 in there)
Also know a coupla ex yachttie mates playing with bulk 18650's as a base power supply.
There are thousands floating around.
Just need to do a little reading FIRST., Then go round scrounging.
I get mine from mate at local dump (illegal. shhh)
Most are good quality. Panasonic. LG or Sanyo Cells.
Not the Chinese rubbish.

Actually they are not the same batteries at all. It's a shame everyone refers to them all as the same when they aren't, it gets confusing.
The chemistry is different LiFePo4 (LFP for short) are the ones used for RV's and are not at all volatile.
In fact you could shoot one and it wont explode.
They do however require a different approach to charging to attain the advertised lifespan.

Sorry Ron if I was a bit short. I just get a bit sick of the endless discussion about the virtues of lithium and the disinformation that often creeps in.
In your words the current battery is doing the job so why spend more money. There are a whole series of threads in this section to read about the subject, my suggestion is to do so as most things have been discussed before.
My thoughts are a 110Ahr battery is a bit limited but it depends on what you want to run with it. Get a second one perhaps and see how that fits. But really you should do an inventory of your expected uses to see what you need. Then see how to achieve that. Then see what the alternatives cost, short and long term.
I run a 150 Ahr lead acid battery in my Sprinter MH and two solar panels as well as the engine charging them. Works for me. I also have some lithium batteries for other uses.

No problems Jaahn we just run Leds ,Tv,and the water pump when off the grid and have a portable 80w panel that was good enough with the old van ,but the new one is takeing a heavy toll on the battery,thinking about maybe a 180w panel portable panel,this new Van has a dc to dc charger a modern three stage batterycharger ect .but the old van with a lead acid battery worked a lot better go figure..

We don't really NEED them.

and know a coupla others that had trouble with them.
Hence I'm trying alternatives.
Some of these Chinese ones, are getting good reviews Overseas.

Yep there a bit dearer but lite as well I took out 120 amp gel weighed 95 kgs . Replaced with 400 amps of lithium 60 kgs .Now there are people who think they know everything about lithium and there are people who know everything . Ti Terry knows what you need to know. I have his system and have had it for 2 yrs or so. Now this is were so called smart people get on the train with guns to I might ad . 400 amps of lithium is close to having the same as 750 of gell . Hmm you ask how . Well a gell you can only take out 40 % some go 50% . And a lithium you could go to 10% but mine are set to 20% . You can suck power out quick and punch it in quick as well .
When we first got them done we had 240 washing machine , jug , NutriBullet , battery charger , fridge is 12 ever kool when we finish this trip I'm going 25o ltr Samsung of an inverter , we have a electric toaster . Drill charger , and the best bit a 2.5 split kelvenator air con . With 1100 watt of solar on the roof if the batteries are full at about I can run the air con for about 4 hrs in full sunlight and still have 95 ish % left in them
We can go from about 4 pm till about 7 am use in game 25 % . Boiling the1400 watt jug with 3 cups of water costs 1%. With full batteries in good sunlight wife con do 6 loads of washing and still have full batteries . Can't wait to get the auto water heater set up done so I won't need to use gas .
When we finish traveling I'm going to hook up the house to the van
Ps now hiding from bullets I recon your finding your gun already

I had 2X 100AH Gell batteries . It was getting down to 12v before bedtime . So I fitted extra solar and another battery . Ok 18 months newer than existing . But old stock and right price !! I moved the engine batteries to inside chassis rails on vented battery box. So I have room for house batteries . Motorhome has hydraulic stabiizers to lift high enough to service . With stands . With the extra battery 300Ah . We find the battery voltage doesn't go under. 12.5 even on overcast days . I also fitted a voltage relay between the house and motor batteries so motor batteries don't drain flat ! Plus make sure asin my case the sat TV was connected to motor batteries !! I HATE having flat motor batteries !! The worry is both going flat so we are stuck in bush !! What I'm saying is have enough storage no matter what battery type !

And it's like the other saying goes if you want quality and quantity you have to pay for it . I paid the price I got what I want and more if you know what I mean. I do understand people are comfortable with old style systems . And that's all there is to it

It's the $$ plus tmk it's just not the battery ? I like the battery system in our little DC lawn mower . Been going for 2 years now . It cuts 2 or 3 lawns ever 2 weeks . Never had any issues !! Often thought of using 4 or 6 of these batteries at $100 each ?? 36v. Charge in 20min .

Ron as someone said up top t1 Terry is the Ma to talk to . Some people put him down but there the ones that are non believers . Ok so I'm a believer . 400 amps battery about $2500 I have 1100 watt solar from lowerenergydevelopments roughly $1 watt inverter 3000 /6000 was about $500 Terry's bit is hard for me to put dollars on as we both fitted and played around with it but 4000 rings a bell . Remember I bought some bits n pieces fitted the solar and the batteries . Hope that helps

Thanks for your reply Dibs I agree Lithium is a fantastic system but our fridge runs on gas ,so all we need to run is Tv,the water pump and led lights ,if we were on the road permanent I would not hesitate installing the system,were runing an 80W portable solar panel and a 100 amp AGM battery and it worked well in our old van but with our new Van the battery only lasts 1 year ,so that's why I was curious about lithium ...
