Hi, Wondering if i I can get a quick response re brake controllers, I have read a lot and have decided to go with a Red Arc Tow Pro Elite, The price of the unit is $239.00 and cheaper than the Tekonsha P3 and a sparkie will fit it for a supply and fit price of $650.00. I feel that this is exorbitant as I can fit it myself, but is this a good unit and worth the money. Thanks in advance.

I went for the P3 & am very happy. Got it on line at a good price & self installed. Easy Peasy.
A trailer specialist that I went to on another issue wasn't a fan of the Redarc product, suggested that he had replaced a number of burnt out magnets (I think) on Redarc set ups. I didn't follow up the claim with him as I had the P3.
I would have thought that all Redarc product are pretty good but perhaps somewhat dear.

Spoken to a couple on the Tow Pro.
one was iffy about his.
P3. I had since that model came out.
This Ute with 2 ton van.
Have the basic self adjust model. $150.
and a carton for sparkie mate to install.
They ALL stop your van, when set up properly.
Why waste the extra.
Spend it on something useful. Like a bottle of single malt.
I just spent $230 on a bottle of Taliskers 18yr.
Nectar........
MUCH better value for your money.
You do not need all these top line, fancy units.
They all just have more electronics in there to go wrong.
ALL are basically the same. With extra's. which are not NEEDED.... Just wanted?.

The tow pro elite is an excellent choice and at the cutting end of technology. The unit itself is solid state and can be hard mounted under the dash out of sight with the adjusting knob mounted into the dash. Wiring up is easy, why not do it yourself.Full instructions are included. Check out the prices on e-bay.

Can't remember what make mine is but it has a remote activator and strength adjuster on it . The unit is under the dash and I have mounted the control button just above the hand brake . That way if I need to use it it's just below my fingers . Not down under the dash . I did spend a bit extra but it makes things safer for me

The only advantage to a Redarc unit is it has a remote head unit allowing fitting into tighter places for the control Knob . THATS IT !!!
The Prodigy and P3 are more adjustable eg the program re boost allows greater control of braking ,you can set max brake plus brake punch [brake amount on first application ]
This reason alone makes it a winner over the Redarc

AND. They did do a very good job when set up.
At a fraction of the price of the later models.(Tekonsha)
Hence I still used till NEEDING a replacement.

I've had a P3 since then. With latest a Prodigy.
Quite happy. Can adjust on the move
and it DOES. Pull my rig up on the manual lever.
(The Patrol and 6.5m) This rig too.
If the Redarc are anywhere near as good as their Solenoid Dual Battery unit. They leave a bit to be desired.
"I" was talking up. and had. An Electronic one of those. Loooong b4 Redarc brought out an update. Funny that. We can't all be right ALL the time hey. just most of. chuckle.

Hi All, I fitted the Tow Pro Elite to the Pajero, Bought the wire @ $100.00, plus heavy wire to the battery, resettable 30amp circuit braker, pulled the dash apart to fit the controller and drill a hole for the remote head, in took about 3 hrs plus another hour to remove the 2nd battery to get the wires through the dash, the unit cost $237.00, and if I had paid a tech to do it it would have been $500-$600.00 so I can see where the cost is involved. I was not going to pay that so I class work time on my car as free, its the parts cost that is the killer plus the labour charge. The thing is I know where everything is and that it's done properly.

Yes Bob when you itemise all the costs & time it does add up.
In my case the wire was already there from a previous controller, so no cost; I got the circuit breaker on line for a lot less than $20 (can't remember the exact price); the installation on the Patrol was a simple process of just screwing the provided bracket to the dash.
Might be different for a new installation in a new vehicle. The main issues would I suppose, making sure that it didn't interfere with the various computers.
