These new hoses certainly don't last long - I fitted a new one just over 3 years ago and made sure I got a quality Australian made one, anyway she failed last week and blew out just above the regulator. My guess is that where it failed is on a bend which allows sunlight to pass through the braid and degrade the hose - rest of the hose is OK although I must add the hose quality is poor as there are a few imperfections in the rubber...not what I thought I'd find in high pressure hose. It's also not reinforced - just a rubber hose like you'd use on a lawn mower fuel line. Admittedly mine spends 90% of it's time in the sun, however you'd think they would be designed with this in mind. Picture are self-explanatory.
I have copper pigtails ... still the original ones - nine years old now.

Use copper pig tails and every year or so take iiff and heat red hot and dunk in water to soften the copper. This keeps them easy to fit and reduces risk of cracking. Copper hardens with bending or hammering

I guess copper pigtails would be the way to go, but it would be nice if they could be more easily aligned when changing gas bottles and be done up without a spanner. We have copper pigtails at home and my wife tried to change the bottle one time and simply gave up as she could not align the connector with the bottle.
I find it hard to understand how the rubber hose is such poor quality and is not reinforced - planned obsolescence I guess.

Hey Denis, I got a piece of 19mm L/d garden soft poly and slit it(slight spiral) to cover my home bbq hose as it was always in the West sun. Looks a little primitive but hose was still good after a couple of years, changed bbq and gave it to another " sun affected hose victim". cheers Craig

Just renew the hoses every couple of years there relatively cheap to buy ,easy to fit saves mucking around with copper pipes...

I think I'll do what Craig suggests and cover the hose and also try and avoid sharp bends - if I don"t get round to that I'll just replace it in 3 years time when I smell gas again....BOOM!

Denis, rubber hoses can deteriorate even if not exposed to the sun. The gas affects them & very small bits of rubber can block gas jets.
Copper is the only way to go.

I went from copper to braided as the copper was a pain when on the road, just change every couple of years and carry a spare.

Both have their issues . One hot day I saw a wave of gas coming out of the side of motorhome . Sheesh didn't know wether to RUN or turn it off . Did the latter !! Man sure got my attention. Replace the braided hose every 2 or 4. Years now ! Longer lead so less chance of binding or crimping when moving bottle !! I tried purchasing a better hose than rubber ? I have heaps of methanol EFI hoses too ..

Personally I like this style.
No tools required and available up to 900m in length so you can attached a small backup 4kg bottle sitting on the ground without having to remove your 9kg from its holder. Just wrap the excess length around the 9kg bottle shroud.
