Does anyone know what this wire on the outside door of my caravan is for please.

Looks like an electrical earth wire to me. It earths the door to the main frame of the van. Looks like yours is broken. I'd get it replaced. You can't rely on the hinges or latches to provide adequate grounding (earth) to the van, so they add the wire to maintain the circuit. Robert.

yes it is just that
it is may be used to stop static electricity when you open door
I myself would not worry with it and take it off all together
the only other reason to be there is if they use it for earth return for a light
on door then replace

It is designed to relieve static build up. Ours broke and I repaired it 3 times, then 10 years ago I gave up.

Thankyou so much for the replies.I did think it might be something like an earth wire but never gave a thought to antistatic.
As I'm no where near a bright spark, static electricity shouldn't be a problem then
The actual main door is still connected to the wire but it is the outside section that has come adrift.
