Does anyone know what the road conditions are like getting to Steep Point. I have just read that is is a drive of 40km on soft sand so therefore 4WD only. I have a 4WD but just wondering what the conditions are like and if it is still indeed 40km of soft sand?

You can see from air Flights from Denham/Monkey Mia Airport - very instructional and knowledgeable Pilots. Real value for money. We didn't drive out due to towing van - but were advised it is no worse than beach driving (which we also don't do with van on back).

Thanks Possum3. If I go I wouldn't take the van.

We went to Steep Point in 2006,we did it as a day trip from Hamelin Pool Caravan Park, wish we had a tent as you could spend a few days there.
Can't remember there being 40 km of soft sand to tackle, couldn't have been to bad,as we have no bad memories of it,just remember one sandy hill looked worse than what it was.
The road in is pretty corrugated, you will come to a sign telling to air down your tyres
Is it possible that the "40km of soft sand" was in fact the track to Cape Peron?

Thanks you very much for the replies. It will be a couple of months before I am in that area so hopefully I will receive some info from someone who has recently been there. Happy to tackle soft sand dunes but not alone. You need someone else with you just in case.
