Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has painted their checker plate on the front of their van, Ours is the shiny aluminium and the sun gets on it and reflects badly into our eyes when driving, any suggestions out there.

Hi Jan,
Know what you mean, ours is the same. Either paint or vinyl (or similar) cover.

I think a cover would be better as paint on metal would tend to chip over time and look fairly shabby.

It will go dull with time and will not reflect.
Depends if you can wait.

I just adjust the internal rear view mirror to the "dull" setting that I also use for idiots who drive behind me on high beam.

I saw something the other day I'll tell you about. Now, I don't know much about it, so it may be a dud idea.....but it looked really good. It was on the front of a van that came in here a week or so ago. It was the stuff they put in the back of Utes apparently. Like I said, don't know much about it....like if it'd stick to checkerplate or not (if you find out let me know lol), it was put (aftermarket) just onto the aluminium of this (rather new I'm guessing) van. Very tough feeling. Almost like that grainy paint you used to be able to get. Not sure if it's a thing you could get everywhere, or just in QLD, but it might give you a lead about chasing something down as a possible fix to your problem.

Grubbygypsy I think the product you are referring to is Rhino linings.see this link www.rhinolinings.com.au/auto/ It sticks like S##t to a blanket. you can also get the same type of thing as a do it yourself kit referred to as spray on bed liner .
