I am curious if any one has used other types of roof insulation in there van such as pink bats or rock wool type insulation as opposed to polystyrene which i am assuming most vans still might use. I am pondering on whether to look at using something like that in the roof instead of re-using the old polystyrene, the idea is to hopefully improve the insulation on the old van prior to re-cladding it. Any ideas?
Kind Regards,
Alan

You need to be careful. I believe that rockwool retains moisture and may harbour insects etc. Slippage can also cause issues. Just read that somewhere, I don't really know.

Newlands/Concept use Styrofoam pieces in sides and mineral wool in ceiling, it's in their production video.

I think if I was building my own van I would use a rock wool as I I could pack it in much more even though its dearer ,it would be a lot more insular .We used it many times to seal around waste pipes in the 1st floor cavities to silence the pipes on double storey homes . Cheers.

Hi All,
Thanks for the replies i will look into it and try and see who is using what, i only want to use it for the roof to try to improve the insulation up there and will use the polystyrene in the walls to stop any slippage.
Kind Regards,
Alan.

Has any one tried a reflective ceramic based paint on top of their van roofs called 'Supertherm' for radiant heat/sun protection?
I know it has great success on sea containers and commercial roofs keeping the inside at ambient temps.
